Burnaby Community Services, in collaboration with Burnaby Neighbourhood House, is seeking a passionate and motivated individual to join our team! This new team member will have solid experience recruiting, scheduling, and coordinating volunteers as they will be taking on this key role with our Burnaby Christmas Bureau this holiday season. This important seasonal program requires a highly organized person to manage volunteers and communicate with corporate sponsors. This position is a 3–6 month contract with the possibility of a contract extension to assist with future 2022 events, projects, and programs.
We are looking for a resourceful, enthusiastic individual with strong communication and organizational skills to coordinate our event volunteers, toy room deliveries, donors, and sponsors. This individual will be joining a dynamic team of community-driven staff and volunteers to engage and support low-income Burnaby residents.
What is the Burnaby Christmas Bureau? We support those who need us most during the holiday season. We provide hampers for seniors and those who are homeless and at-risk, and we distribute new gifts and toys to children of local families who are of low income.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
Volunteer Management – Christmas Bureau Toy Room
o Source and recruit volunteers through varied mediums (volunteer job postings, social media, newspaper).
o Screen potential volunteers to determine if they are a good fit for our program.
o Onboard new volunteers and familiarize them with our organization and the volunteer opportunities.
o Schedule volunteers by assigning them to various roles and shifts, as required.
o Create ongoing updates to process documentation, checklists, and timelines.
“Angel Project” – Toy Donation Coordination
o Coordinate the annual community-wide Christmas Bureau Toy Drive.
o Answer incoming calls and questions regarding the program.
o Liaise with organizations, schools, and businesses regarding toy donations.
o Schedule toy collection and drop-off at the Brentwood Mall Toy Room.
Corporate Sponsorship & Donor Assistance
o Communication with corporate toy donors and sponsors.
o Donor assistance and acknowledgment (social media and newspaper).
o Project management experience, with the necessary skills to successfully support our Christmas Bureau Program from start to finish.
o Experience recruiting, scheduling, and managing volunteers.
o Excellent time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
o Advanced working knowledge of Excel.
o Ability to handle stress, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
o Advanced communication skills, verbal and written.
o Knowledge and awareness of issues surrounding diversity and multiculturalism.
o Able to communicate effectively with people of diverse backgrounds by phone and in person.
o Exceptional attention to detail.
o Candidate must be a team player with a can-do attitude.
o Enjoys a positive, hard-working environment with like-minded individuals.
o Documentation reflecting full vaccination against Covid-19 is required.
o Second language is an asset.
o Driver’s license and access to a vehicle is an asset.
Burnaby Community Services, founded in 1971, is a charitable society providing a voice, resources and opportunities to those who need support. The Burnaby Neighbourhood House is a charitable non-profit organization. We are a volunteer driven, community funded agency with a unique focus on neighbours supporting neighbours. For seniors in our community, we offer a range of programs and services, ranging from shopping and food programs to social support and information services.
Hours, Location & Pay Rate:
35 hours per week.
This role is an in-person role at the Brentwood Community Resource Centre
(located at 2055 Rosser Avenue, Burnaby).
Rate of pay between is between $20.98 - $23.63 (dependent on experience).
