The British Columbia Society of Transition Houses (BCSTH) and Women’s Shelters Canada (WSC) are seeking a French-speaking trainer with a strong working knowledge of English , with knowledge and expertise related to supporting children and youth who have experienced and/or witnessed gender-based violence in the home. Familiarity with women’s shelter/transition house environments would be a strong asset.
Supported by the Training Coordinator, the French Trainer will be working remotely with an English-speaking team based in British Columbia to deliver virtual trainings in French to frontline shelter workers as part of our project, PEACE for Canadian Children & Youth: Training and Peer Mentorship for Women’s Shelters in Northern, Rural and Remote Communities to Build Specialized Supports for Children & Youth Survivors and Witnesses of Gender-Based Violence.
Women’s Shelters Canada (WSC) http://endvaw.ca/ and the BC Society of Transition Houses (BCSTH) http://www.bcsth.ca/have partnered in a three-year project to provide training and mentorship to shelter workers in northern, rural, and remote communities across Canada with the goal of enhancing their capacity to offer specialized supports for vulnerable children and youth who have experienced and/or witnessed gender-based violence.
The training and mentorship for this project is based on BCSTH’s successful “Prevention, Education, Advocacy, Counselling and Empowerment” (PEACE) Program for children and youth responding to violence. Over the course of this project, training will be delivered virtually and free of charge to 30 cohorts of shelter workers from across the country. Each cohort will be connected with a mentor drawn from current PEACE counsellors throughout BC. In addition, project results will be used to generate a legacy blueprint of promising practices that will be available for widespread use.
Funding for this project is provided by Women and Gender Equality (WAGE) Canada.
