SoundCheck Youth Arts Inc. (“Soundcheck”) is a black-led non-profit organization that helps children and youth facing barriers realize their full potential through dynamic music and mentorship programs. We offer unique programs and services catered towards musicians of all levels of musical proficiency. Whether it is building confidence, creating lasting friendships or supporting artistic and professional growth, our work has proven that music builds community. Operating from our soon to be renovated 2200sq/ft music facility, we are a leading musician incubator that offers wraparound support to musicians.


Position Summary

SoundCheck is looking for a motivated individual with a passion for youth and a strong background in the arts, program development and project management. The Program Director will lead our programming department consisting of virtual & in-person programs, develop our mentorship platform, coordinate drop-ins at our 2200 sq/ft facility and manage our programming team consisting of Musician Mentors, guest instructors & volunteers.


Work Conditions: The position is an office position with some virtual work accommodations 

possible depending on the task assigned.


Duties and Responsibilities:

Program Development, Management & Administration

  • Provide musician mentors/guest facilitators with direction, support for their workshops
  • Develop & implement short and long-term program vision in consultation with Executive Director 
  • Lead the creation of engaging, high quality music programming that is responsive to community needs in collaboration with the programming team
  • Ensure programming deliverables are achieved 
  • Develop and implement evaluation metrics to measure the impact of our programs
  • Oversee all program documentation (i.e. training manuals, curriculum documentation, consent forms, sign-in sheets etc.)
  • Develop & execute responsive professional development and mentorship activities for participants
  • Oversee & maintain programming spaces and room set-ups
  • Responsible for maintenance of onsite instruments equipment inventory including repairs (i.e. noting any issues and co-ordinating repairs
  • Cultivate and steward strong community and artistic partnerships
  • Support, train, inspire and supervise the programming team
  • Develop and maintain program staff contracts and guests facilitators
  • Program administration including reporting, budget management, statistics tracking etc.
  • Ensure a high standard of administrative protocol is adhered to for each program: contracts, budget & training, compliance, statistics tracking, reports, archiving
  • Understand the needs of community members & advocate on their behalf. 


Required Skills:

  • High-Proficiency with Google workplace (sheets, docs, drive etc.)
  • Possesses knowledge & competence required to work with black & multi-barriered communities effectively
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated Ability to work within an equity, social justice framework 
  • Demonstrated understanding of complex equity issues from lived experience and/or experience working for a non-profit organization
  • Demonstrated Ability to lead Anti-Black Racism and Anti-Oppressive work
  • Established network of professional musicians is an asset
  • Experience with digital marketing platforms such as mailchimp is an asset
  • Detail oriented and well-organized
  • Enjoys creative, inspiring work environment
  • Music proficiency in drums, keyboards, bass or guitar is an asset.
  • Knowledge of audio/video equipment and software (i.e. DAWS, loopback, audio interfaces, mixers, zoom, camera switchers etc) is an asset
  • Ability to complete detailed reports



  • Degree in Social Work, Social Services or related field is preferred and/or combination of relevant education & work experience
  • 3+ years of experience in program administration/management including service and program development, staff supervision, budget administration, and working with community partners is preferred
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects at a time
  • Vulnerable Sector check required upon hiring
