The Kettle Society supports people with mental illness to lead healthier lives by providing support services, advocacy, employment, and mentoring and housing. We work to raise awareness of mental health issues, break down stigma and reduce barriers for people with mental illness. Start Date: January 4, 2022 to March 2022

Hours and Days:

9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, Weekends, on-call administrative and emergencies availability required

Salary & Compensation:

$32 - $34 / hour, depending on experience

Duties:

Under the direction of the Community Services Manager, this position is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Kettle Advocacy Service and the Kettle ID Bank. Develops policy and procedures for both programs and supervision and training of the associated staff. Reviews all intakes, assigns case files to Advocates and provides on-going supervision. Reviews staff’s caseload, and secures and administers funding grants for both programs. Provides in-house expertise on advocacy. Coordinates the yearly Kettle Tax Clinic and coordinates the ID Bank.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the mandate, programs and policies of The Kettle, particularly as these relate to advocacy
  • Knowledge of administrative practices and procedures of The Kettle, particularly as these relate to advocacy, including accounting, program management, and record maintenance and reporting requirements
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the policy and legislative frameworks governing income security benefits, residential tenancy law, child protection and family law, along with a general knowledge of mental health treatment protocols and issues
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of program management and the ability to plan, implement and evaluate programs
  • Knowledge of psychological, physical and social aspects of mental illness, abuse, addiction and poverty
  • Knowledge of services and activities of community and government agencies including referral sources and community resources
  • Conflict resolution and mediation skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective communication with clients
  • Ability to supervise staff in a unionized environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to research, write and review administrative law submissions
  • Ability to utilize word processing and spreadsheet software
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline plus five years of recent, related experience including supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Valid Occupational First Aid Level One (OFA1) Certificate, or equivalent.
  • WHMIS
  • Food Safe Level 1
  • First Aid for Mental Health
  • Naloxone Training

 

Upon conditional hire, must receive an approved Criminal Record Check with the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General for working with children and vulnerable adults, and must maintain good-standing.
