The Phoenix Society is a not-for-profit society dedicated to providing accessible services and opportunities to people who face barriers related to addiction, mental health, housing, education, criminal justice involvement and/or employment.
Effective October 26 2021, all new hires at the Phoenix Society require full COVID 19 vaccinations (have a series of a World Health Organization-approved vaccine against infection by SARS-COV-2, or a combination of approved WHO vaccines). Individual medical exemptions must be approved by the Provincial Health Officer.
Clinical Support Workers are responsible for providing day-to-day support, direct assistance, supervision, and monitoring of residents in the newly opened Phoenix House. They also provide seasonal support to the Extreme Weather Shelter, as needed. Note that there will be some work-alone situations.
- Orient new residents to the house including issuing swipe cards, going over health and safety protocols, making introductions, ensuring bed bug precautions have been conducted, etc.
- Assist in the orientation and training of new staff in the integrated services model combining clinical addiction, housing, employment and educational services.
- Dispense client medication and maintain Medication Administration Records.
- Monitor client curfews and behaviours, reporting up any concerns to the Program Coordinator.
- Occasionally accompany clients to the pharmacy for medications administration.
- Demonstrate courtesy and respect for others.
- Promote good relations (builds rapport and trust, shares information with others, accepts and expresses suggestions or feedback in a positive, constructive manner, being sensitive to the needs and feelings of others).
- Model positive, healthy behaviours to encourage clients to contribute to a safe and respectful environment.
- Build rapport with clients, supporting them as they practice setting boundaries, effective communication skills, conflict resolution, etc.
- Encourage clients to engage in their collaborative action plans.
- Assist and coordinate daily tasks with Addiction Counselors and the Admissions Coordinators.
- Administrative tasks such as
- Assisting with case documentation
- Database entries
- Preparing new client files
- Professionally answering phones
- Overnight staff sometimes prepares morning coffee for clients
QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE
- Two year diploma from a post-secondary education and training relevant to the addiction treatment field, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Preference will be given to those with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in the addiction services field within a community setting, assisting those affected by substance misuse, concurrent disorders, unemployment, lack of education, criminal justice involvement, homelessness and poverty-related issues to become active participants in the social, economic and cultural life of the community.
- Ability to apply trauma-informed practices to clinical care
- Strong collaborative approach to delivering and developing programs and services
- Proven communication and conflict resolution skills
- Strong organizational and problem solving skills
- Effectively communicate professionally, verbally and written in English
- Negative Tuberculosis Screening Certificate
- Effectively utilize Office suite including Excel, Word, Outlook and central data systems
- Current First Aid/CPR (classes are offered by Phoenix Society, if needed)
- Criminal Records check for working with vulnerable populations
- Class 5 BC Driver's License and driver's abstract preferred.
