North Fraser Youth Outreach Program

Position: North Fraser Youth First Outreach Worker (NFYFOW)

35 hours per week -- $24 per hour

 

The NFYFOW will have education, knowledge, and training of adolescent development, mental health, and criminogenic needs, as well as a deep understanding of youth issues and the systems within which at-risk youth operate.  In addition, the NFYFOW will have an ability to build relationships and engage with youth who have been difficult to engage in support services. The positions provides outreach support services wherever the youth may be, throughout the Metro Vancouver area.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Work from a person-centred, strengths-based approach to assess strengths and needs of youth and families.
  • Provide one-to-one support and outreach of youth who have multiple risk factors: mental health, addictions and complex behaviors such as FASD and/or developmental delays and/or are involved in high-risk activities (e.g. sexual exploitation, criminal activity, street involvement, or self-harm).
  • One-to-one service to adjudicated and non-adjudicated youth with a history of being difficult to engage in support services and/or healthy activities.
  • Provide goal-focused intervention through assessing client needs, and develop service plans to assist youth/family achieve objectives.
  • Provide support and education to family/caregiver where required.
  • Community outreach.
  • Provide life skills training in both individual and group settings.
  • Maintain timely and accurate reports and file documentation in accordance with COA administrative and service standards.
  • Work in a collaborative practice model with community agencies and organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A 4-year degree in social work, psychology or related field is required, with 2 years’ experience in the field of youth and family services.
  • Experience delivering community-based services to youth and their families.
  • Knowledge of working with mental health and complex developmental behavioural conditions.
  • Knowledge of adolescent development and issues related to at-risk youth.
  • Knowledge of sexual exploitation and experience working with sexually exploited youth.
  • Knowledge of the legislation and policies that govern service delivery in the social service sector.
  • Knowledge of collaborative practice and working effectively with a variety of professionals.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, counselling, oral and written communication skills.
  • Good organization and time management skills.
  • Exceptional report writing skills.
  • Class 5 license and vehicle required; Class 4 or willingness to get.
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, some evening/weekend work required.
  • First Aid certification required.
