Friends of Amani Canada seeks an ambitious Director of Development with successful fundraising experience to implement a sustainable strategy to grow our financial support for Amani Center for Street Children, working remotely two days per week in a contract position.

About Amani Center for Street Children (Also Known as Amani Children’s Home), Tanzania -

From humble beginnings 20 years ago, Amani Center for Street Children has grown to become one of the largest NGOs dealing with street children in East Africa. Today Amani is nationally recognized for their life-changing work as 80 dedicated social workers, educators and caregivers support almost 1000 children in three Tanzanian locations. Amani’s overarching goal is to help children off the streets, into education, and back into their families and communities. Every effort is made to reunite the children with family members and their local communities, while sometimes providing modest financial support for school fees or family support. As part of the work towards family/community reintegration, Amani operates purpose-built facilities where children temporarily live, eat, attend school, and are enabled to thrive. In some cases, Amani also funds vocational training, and for the most-talented children, it will pay for college or university.

About Friends of Amani Canada -

A grassroots Canadian registered charity, Friends of Amani Canada (FOA-CA) is one of several national Friends organizations throughout the world supporting Amani’s vital and compelling work with some of the world’s most marginalized children. Since its beginning in 2008, volunteers with FOA-CA have raised over $2 million through support from mid-sized charitable foundations, annual donations and monthly sponsorships from a core group of committed Friends who have also organized fundraising efforts, including Kilimanjaro climbs, on Amani's behalf, and an annual dinner for Toronto’s financial community. But with Amani’s annual operating budget of $1.24M and plans for continued growth, our FOA-CA business-minded Board has committed to bringing our support to a new level by hiring a Direct of Development to specifically engage in growing our organization’s ability to support Amani’s goals.

The Director of Development will work closely with our FOA-CA Board to develop a comprehensive fundraising strategy, and will be responsible for implementing the resulting plan. • Support the efforts of Amani’s Canadian donor base to fundraise on Amani’s behalf.
  • If deemed merited, reach out to lapsed donors for renewed support.
  • Assist with organizing bi-annual virtual global events to share, maintain and develop interest in Amani's work, using these events to connect with and grow the donor base.
  • Strategize ways to invite existing and potential Canadian supporters to visit Amani (post-pandemic) – possibility in tandem with a fundraising climb up Mount Kilimanjaro.
  • Arrange opportunities for Amani’s Executive Director to maximize the impact of annual Canadian fundraising trips.
  • Refine and expand the pipeline of potential Canadian donors and coordinate with existing volunteers to approach those donors.
  • Communicate with the Director of Development for the FOA-US, to share success stories and coordinate activities where appropriate.
  • Communicate with FOA-CA Chair and Board the successes and shortfalls of all fundraising activities.
  • Ensure donors are thanked on a timely basis and their donations are tracked using donor management software.
