Reporting to the Facilities Manager or designate, performs routine maintenance and demand repairs in a variety disciplines related to buildings, grounds and equipment. Organizes vendors and/or performs preventative maintenance and repairs on assigned equipment or requisitions, oversees and inspects repairs performed by others.
- Support volunteers, and/or corporate groups, ensuring adequate supplies, equipment and materials are available for a crew of up to 10 volunteers for various maintenance tasks such as installing Christmas lights, washing vehicles, pressure washing, painting porches, etc.
- Ability to offer guidance, direction and support to volunteers and corporate groups working in the gardens and on other exterior projects. Able to prioritize tasks and assignments for volunteers to utilize their time most productively.
- Occasional pressure washing and assisting grounds staff with fall leaf collection and other general grounds maintenance such as fence repair, outdoor furniture maintenance, etc.
- Applying paint and other finishes by brush, roller, and/or spray. Remove and replace ceiling tiles, floor tiles, linoleum, carpet and other flooring finishes. Installing thresholds, baseboard and cove molding.
- Repair and/or replace plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, and faucets. Tracing leaks and changing out plumbing fixtures including shut off valves, supply and waste lines.
- Perform light carpentry repairs on cupboards, shelves, furniture, walls, floors, ceilings and windows by applying materials such as dry wall, wood paneling, or other finishes.
- Exterior repairs to shingles, doors, roofing gutters, steps, railings, fences, walls and portico areas as required.
- Adjust or replace hinges, door closers, lock sets and hardware. Issue keys, fobs and credentials on access control system. Monitor and review incidents using CCTV system.
- Performing trouble shooting and assist with the maintenance of equipment such as washers, dryers, vacuums, hospital beds, furniture and food service equipment as required.
- Re-lamping light fixtures and retrofitting to LED bulbs or LED fixtures where possible.
- Installing electrical items such as timers, switches, receptacles and ballasts. Tracing problem circuits; performing safety checks on electrical appliances for defects such as faulty wires and improper grounding.
- Ability to trace, run, punch down and test network, telephone and coaxial cables.
- Monthly inspections for Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) to identify potential safety concerns and report inspections at meetings regarding any incidents or accidents.
- Perform monthly generator test, ensure fuel is topped up, check critical fluids and inspect fittings, connections, gauges and transfer switch operation.
- Liaise with vendors for services including HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Pest Control, Generator Service, Waste haulers, Painters, Security Service, Elevator Service, Fire Life Safety Contractor, Irrigation Company, Flooring Installer, Roofing Contractor and any others contractor as required. Identify needs, assist in procuring quotes, supervise and inspect installations and repairs.
- Furniture moving, set-up and disassembly.
- Store and retrieve files, seasonal lights, decorations and other seasonal item in prescribed storage areas.
- Prep exterior fountains and water features for winter and recommission in spring
- Responsible for the setup and teardown for tents, lighting, signage and electrical hook ups for events held onsite.
- Other related responsibilities, as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Grade 12, plus 5 years related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Formal training in a related trade would be an asset.
- Valid BC Driver’s license.
- Ability to secure a vulnerable person criminal record check.

- Flexibility surrounding schedules and the ability to quickly pivot work priorities
- Familiar with the safe use of hand and power tools required to complete tasks.
- Basic knowledge of painting, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, irrigation systems and overall building systems.
- Strong understanding of hydronic HVAC systems, including boiler, chiller, cooling tower and air handling units. Ability to change filters, control valves, adjust and/or change fan drive belts and motors.
- Working knowledge of “Reliable Controls” HVAC DDC (Direct Digital Control) system would be an asset.
- Exceptional emotional intelligence to be able to work in a multi-disciplinary setting, and when required, interact appropriately with coworkers, our patients and their families.
