Assistant Manager – Thrift Store, Drop ‘n’ Shop

Community Living Hamilton (CLH), a busy and vibrant organization that supports 1,600 adults and children with diverse abilities thrive in the community. We have an opening for the role of Assistant Manager at our Thrift Store, Drop ‘n’ Shop within our agency.

ORGANIZATION PROFILE – CLH is the region’s largest service provider for individuals with developmental disabilities such as Down Syndrome and Autism. We are dedicated to helping them achieve their full potential, be included in our community and, ultimately, build great lives.

As an accredited organization, we offer widely recognized expertise and serve more than 1,600 people with special needs every year – from children to aging seniors. We offer community participation programs, residential services, respite services, employment supports and services designed for children.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Assistant Manager of Drop ‘n’ Shop is responsible for the overall management of the day-to- day store operations. Including but not limited to:

  • Develop, maintain and promote a high level of quality of customer service and service delivery
  • Lead and supervise employees while encouraging their growth and development
  • Develop a high performing team
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Entrepreneurial mentality with experience in a sales-focused environment
  • Provide placement, training, and cross-training for all staff
  • Maximize sales volumes and ensure targets are met
  • Monitor sales targets and build projections
  • Manage day-to-day operations, including inventory, sales goals, administration, cleanliness and reporting
  • Plan workflow and assign work to all employees and trainees in order to meet sales and training objectives
  • Meet all internal and external reporting requirements
  • Provide effective customer service, including the ability to handle complaints with professionalism and efficiency
  • Build the store brand through promotional events and networking
  • Ensure all store procedures and protocol are followed by staff, customers and various visitors
  • Ensure daily, weekly, and monthly production goals and metrics are met
  • Ensure inventory is staged in designated areas handle cash, make change, and operate a cash register
  • Perform duties as assigned by the Manager, Client Services: Stocking, pricing, cleaning, sorting, and other duties as assigned. Must be able to work with little or no supervision
  • Write routine reports
  • Fluency in languages other than English, particularly French, are preferred

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of post secondary education in business, marketing, or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in retail in a managerial capacity
  • Experience in thrift store sales, production, and service
  • Knowledge and experience of bookkeeping and accounting to maintain store records
  • Must exhibit a high level of integrity and business ethics
  • Possesses excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Possesses computer skills in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Publisher and Outlook
  • Strong communication, and writing skills
  • Ability to move large/medium items weighing up to 50lbs
  • Must be available to work rotating shifts, as needed
  • Proven ability to resolve issues in a calm and efficient manner
  • Willingness to be a team player
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a team
  • Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination
  • Valid Police record check

Driving: Must possess a valid driver's license from the province of residence. Must be approved and maintain approval through The Community Living Hamilton policies and procedures.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in a fast paced, retail store setting; position requires work on Saturdays.
