Position:   Employment Support Coordinator



Employment and Empowerment Project (EEP) for Youth with Barriers

Under the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy (YESS) Program 

Funded by Service Canada, Government of Canada


Project term:     Appointed Date to March 31, 2023 



The EEP guides and supports youth who are facing barriers to employment, to get gainful employment, under project guidelines, specifically through paid work experience opportunities, with specialized training and support in place. The aim of EEP staff team is to build capacity in participants, through support plan formulation and access to work experience. They will work collaboratively with participants to develop individualized strategies and/or interventions offered through the project, based on the essence of Independent Living Philosophy.


Project-based duties:

  • Assist the attainment of project goals, with collaboration with the RCD management team
  • Assist in maintaining effective and productive In-take process and generate useful information for organizational use
  • Follow the work plan and marketing strategies to launch the project
  • Conduct people-directed planning interviews with individuals in order to determine one’s employment goals, barriers and needs
  • Facilitate and develop the personal employment plan documents in collaboration with the participants
  • Support participants through various interventions based on their personal employment plan
  • Document and recommend any actions necessary to overcome barriers to employment, including utilizing community resources
  • Ensure that the individual is an active participant leading in all phases of the journey


  • Participate actively in team meetings, community meetings and committees as required or assigned
  • Implement evaluation of the project, including seeking feedback from participants and stakeholders
  • Perform related duties as assigned


Participant-based duties:

  • Support and facilitate participants in developing knowledge, experience and connections with the community
  • Assist participant to resolve work-related barriers and develop a capable and resilient support network
  • Work with Support for Independent Living Project team to provide employment and pre-employment training and/or Job Club to participants
  • Match participants’ skills, experience and aspirations with available work experience opportunities or potential job openings
  • Prepare participants for interview and entry into the workforce
  • Support participants throughout work experience, specifically to resolve and manage various barriers and work crisis
  • Monitor participant performance on the job, and support to gain necessary job skills as appropriate


Employer-based duties:

  • Find opportunities and make arrangements to attend job fairs and information sessions with employers
  • Establish and maintain work relationships with employers to source job openings and secure work experience opportunities
  • Research Internet, newspaper, agencies and other resources for job leads
  • Broadcast the benefits and employment support services provided by EEP Project to employers, including addressing the employers’ special needs
  • Provide assistance to employers to better accommodate the needs of participants
  • Match job skills with participant qualifications
  • Conduct site visits for work experience arrangement



  • Academic training or work experience in Human Services, Marketing or any business-related field
  • Experience in job development, employment counselling or related fields is a great asset
  • Excellent social and communication skills, patience and time management
  • Knowledge in the use of computers and basic office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)



  • Demonstrate excellence in the theory and practice of Independent Living (IL) Philosophy
  • Oversee individual activities and program design to ensure adherence to sound IL principles and practices
  • Ensure the provision of quality services, experience and consumer value
  • Ensure the development, implementation and management of financially viable activities and services of the project
  • Ensure master plans and schedules are followed, develop solutions to project challenges, and ensure successful completion of tasks on time and on budget
  • Devise and implement marketing strategies and plans to meet projected operational goals
  • Provide quality work and evaluate project progress to ensure timely and measurable deliveries


Reporting to:     The Executive Director or as assigned by the RCD
