Permanent 35 hour/week position
Location: Hamilton or Welland  with travel between sites

 

Under the authority of the Specialized Services Director and the Violence Against Women Programs Coordinator, the incumbent provides counselling intervention services to Francophone children who have witnessed or are witnessing violence. These services and inherent programs are designed to ensure the healthy development of children and adolescents and promote the development and maintenance of a good relationship between parents and children.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual, family or group assessment and intervention services to clients
  • Develop and facilitate educational and therapeutic groups for children, adolescents and their parents
  • Organize workshops and activities to raise awareness of mental health issues
  • Undertake advocacy work with other organizations on behalf of Francophone children, adolescents, and their families
  • Participate in community initiatives and committees aimed at improving the quality of life of youth
  •  Participate in the development and implementation of intervention models that ensure quality services
  • Liaise and refer with community agencies to improve access to French language services
  • Promote the health of the Francophone community, aiming for the overall development of community health
  • Prepare reports, ensure record keeping and maintain program statistics

 

Specific Skills and Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in social work from a recognized institution
  • Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers or the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, or eligible to become a member
  • Experience in social work with youth and/or in the community
  • Strong organizational skills and a thorough understanding of child and youth mental health issues
  • Knowledge of resources concerning mental health and violence against women and their children in the community
  •  Supportive and open to the customs and habits of other cultures
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge and ability to use basic computer software
  •  Excellent knowledge of oral and written French, good knowledge of English
  • Willingness to work flexible hours to meet customer needs
  • Possess a valid driver's license and have access to a motor vehicle
