The Mandate of Women’s Health in Women’s Hands (WHIWH) Community Health Centre is to provide primary healthcare to racialized women from the African, Black, Caribbean, Latin American and South Asian communities in Toronto and surrounding municipalities. The Centre offers the following opportunity for a professional, motivated and dynamic individual to join the team.

 

MENTAL HEALTH THERAPIST

Part-Time – 20 hrs/week- w/rotating schedule

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

 

  1. Perform counselling/therapy for clients with complex client presentation one on one, with groups and in community
  2. Develops therapeutic, psychoeducational, programs and groups
  3. Conducts trauma focussed assessments and baseline measures i.e.: GAD7’s/PHQ9’s
  4. Assist in client crisis and suicide intervention
  5. Act as a client advocate on individual and systemic issues
  6. Strong knowledge of the social determinants of health and issues that affect racialized communities
  7. Participate in the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of treatment, education, counselling and health promotion programs and services for individuals, groups and the community
  8. Engage community groups and networks in support of community initiatives
  9. Ensures that required documentation is completed and available in the client’s health record in a timely manner that meets professional standards of practice
  10. Initiate and coordinate participation in program
  11. and chart review and case conferencing with a continuous quality improvement (QI) focus
  12. Maintains enthusiastic, passionate and self-driven work ethic
  13. Perform clinical supervision as directed
  14. Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master’s degree in counselling, psychotherapy or social work and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
  2. Must be in good standing with a recognized professional college
  3. Three to five years counselling/therapy experience; preferably in a community health setting
  4. Strong working knowledge of trauma, violence and addictions within an intersectional context
  5. Experience in program development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation
  6. Proficiency in current assessment, psychotherapy, and psychosocial counselling techniques for working with individuals, groups and communities
  1. Strong working knowledge of women’s health challenges and concerns
  1. Proficiency in the use of computers and various software applications
  2. In addition to English, knowledge of a language spoken within one of the four priority communities, an asset
