Bilingual Communications Coordinator 



The Women’s Economic Council (WEC) is a national organization advocating for women-centred community economic development (CED) in Canada. We are the only non-profit that supports networks of like-minded organizations that help women-centred CED flourish across the country.

We are seeking an experienced communications coordinator and content creator to join our team. This multifaceted role is tasked with increasing our brand awareness and advancing WEC’s mission through clever and captivating content. The successful candidate will be a critical part of our content strategy and will help us share compelling and informative stories on WEC's website, publications, social media channels, and email newsletters.

The Bilingual Communications Coordinator will have the opportunity to join a dynamic team and focus on writing pieces, editing videos and creating interactive media elements that share our messaging and activities in innovative and engaging ways. The ideal applicant must have superior writing skills in French and English, a minimum of three years of experience in content writing and preferably a background in feminist or social justice studies. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Executes WEC’s communications strategy. 
  • Coordinates and collaborates on  WEC’s social media, website and newsletter
  • Creates engaging content for WEC’s website, blogs, newsletters, social media channels and writes well-researched pieces on women’s economic security.
  • Coordinates the adaptation and translation of published content in French and English.
  • Works with key internal team members to brainstorm content ideas and looks to bring fresh ideas to the table and new ways of communicating WEC’s messages. 
  • Communicates messages from WEC’s leadership and drafts press releases. 
  • Write impact reports for some WEC meetings.
  • Updates and collaborates on the organizations’ style guide, ensuring that WEC produces a high-quality and error-free copy. 
  • Reviews edits and standardizes the language in WEC’s reports to ensure high-quality reporting.  
  • Evaluates and reports on the performance of WEC’s newsletters, social media channels and campaigns on monthly basis. 
  • Builds and maintains relationships with journalists and key external players.
  • Assists the Community Engagement Coordinator in creating content for events’ promotion. 
  • Develops content for WEC's printed assets and works with graphics and design as required. 
  • Provides media training and instruction on the use of the web and social media as appropriate.
  • Helps in other tasks related to WEC’s communication as needed. 

 

Required Skills and Qualifications 

  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills in French and English are required;
  • Minimum B.A. degree in journalism, literature, marketing or communications 
  • Minimum three years of experience working in content writing;
  • Superior research and communication skills ( both oral and written, in French and English); 
  • Experience developing a variety of materials for campaigns on awareness issues;
  • Excellent proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, and Acrobat;
  •  Experience with DSLR photography and video;
  •  Experience with website/blog management, HTML, social networking applications and e-newsletters, and knowledge of the latest online campaigning techniques is an asset;
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple changing tasks and projects to meet tight timelines, and experience developing campaign and personal work plans and goals;
  • Demonstrate commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working environment;
  • Familiarity with feminist studies, social justice and the restorative economy is highly desired. 

Working Conditions

  •  35 hours of work per week. 
  • Minimal day-to-day supervision with high expectations of work produced.
  • Work remotely, however, in-person meetings and events might be required depending on COVID restrictions.

Salary

$48/$50Kyear depending on qualifications and experience. 

Terms 

This is a two-years and four months contract with the possibility of an extension pending funding.
