The Ministry Outreach Worker is responsible to the Red Deer Program Manager for assisting leading children, youth, and program development and assisting in business administration of Red Deer Hope Mission, in team-planning outreach ministries, conducting programs, leading the programs ministries in accordance with Hope Mission’s vision, mission, and values. 


As a Kids and Youth Worker in our Kids In Action program you will help facilitate personal, social, spiritual and physical growth in children primarily in grades 1-6 through supportive mentoring relationships and providing quality active after-school programming. Kids In Action Programs run out of school gymnasiums Monday-Friday with occasional special events on weekends. Youth In Action programs run primarily for youth in grades 6-8.


Summer Camp: All members of the Red Deer team spend a minimum of 2 weeks of the summer as staff at our overnight camp near Calgary, Camp Hope.


Shifts: Shifts are typically Monday – Friday from 10am-6pm. As we provide programming and services in the after-school hours, all staff must be available to work evenings and Saturdays.



  • Develop sincere relationships with the children/youth and staff of various Hope Mission programs
  • Communicate (through word & action) the Gospel Message to the children/youth of our programs.
  • To work as a team to lead Child and Youth focused programs in Red Deer
  • Participate in/lead program activities such as chapel times, horseback riding, archery, wall-climbing, sports & games, crafts, hiking, canoeing, gardening, field trips, etc.  
  • Provide support to help children avoid cycles of addiction and abuse
  • Ensure proper conduct and safety of children during program times
  • Build rapport with children and their families
  • Provide a positive contribution to the community
  • Provide snacks, meals, games, drama, music and biblical devotions
  1. Outreach Ministry: Be part of a ministry team that develops, prepares, and implements proactive and reactive ministries centered on the gospel of Jesus Christ that mainly engage children (ages 6-12) and direct people to other agencies or organizations that help them with their needs. Programs include kids programs and meal programs. Be actively engaging kids in programs and going out to seek where the kids are.
  2. Leadership and Leadership Development (Discipleship): Be a servant leader, supervise volunteers of various abilities, and be able to be a part of the leadership development in children and youth. Assist in developing a volunteer base and training of volunteers for ministry.
  3. Communication: Clearly communicate with direct supervisor, the Hope Mission Development team, Financial team, Purchaser, Inventory controller, other employees, as well as guests of the programs. Represent Hope Mission to other agencies, organizations, and institutions.
  4. Administrative Support - Donations: Receive donations and respond in kind to our donors as per policies and procedures of the Hope Mission Development team.
  5. Database: Upkeep and maintain database and retrieve client information when needed.
  6. Program Development and Refinement: Lead in developing, planning, conducting, and evaluating a comprehensive program of Christian hospitality, discipleship and training. Supervise volunteers and leaders. Lead in the evaluation and selection and implementing of Christian education curriculum. Connect with Edmonton’s Kids in Action Staff in regards to kids programming, sharing ideas, and mutual support. Build relationships with schools, children’s ministries, churches, and children’s services.
  7. Coordinate Volunteers: Assist in receiving volunteer forms, make sure they follow Hope MIssion’s standards, policies, and procedures, and assign them to appropriate tasks.
  8. Team Dynamics: attend staff meetings and staff functions. Support, strengthen, and uplift other team members. Be available to serve at our Summer Camps as required.
  9. Faithful, Available, and Teachable: Do work faithfully and with excellence, be consistent in work, and be able to grow in character and skill.
  10. Be committed to being ready at all times and in all circumstances to diligently serve, strengthen, and uplift people in the name of Jesus Christ.
  11. Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the Red Deer Program Manager. 



•  Ministry Experience: Relevant experience in ministry involving children, youth, outreach, and

leadership. Understanding of various challenges of those “at risk” and ability to handle relevant


•  Administrative Experience: Adequate training or experience to manage business and fiscal affairs,

supervise volunteers, direct facility maintenance activities. Experience with Office Software (word

processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and media).

•  Cooking Experience: Cooking Experience is an asset for assisting in our food services.

•  Self-Starter, Team Player, Multi-Task, Flexible: Comfortable with ministering to those “at risk” in

Red Deer. Ability to deal with multiple activities, events, and issues, works well under pressure and

under minimal supervision.

•  Education: Completion of high school. Education in ministry or cooking an asset.



  • Being a Christian Organization we require our employees to be in agreement and sign the Hope Mission Statement of Faith.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Able to provide Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
  • A letter of reference from a ministry or church is an asset
  • Adherence Hope Mission’s Policies and Procedures.
