Recreation and Leisure Technician- exercice group instructor
Permanent full-time contract (35 hours per week) starting as soon as possible

Under the authority of the Coordinator and Director of Primary Health, the exercise group instructor for seniors works within the framework of a health promotion worker and always intervenes according to the principles of health promotion and its determinants. He/she aims at the prevention of diseases and the promotion of well-being. He/she organizes health promotion activities in collaboration with members of other sectors to promote the healthy and balanced development of the Francophone community in the Hamilton and Niagara regions.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Facilitate exercise sessions and memory groups for seniors (Soyons Actifs/ Stay Fit)
  • Plan and facilitate community dinners
  • Implement strategies to promote the health and wellbeing of the communities served
  • Encourage and participate in community initiatives aimed at improving quality of life based on    the determinants of health
  • Organize information sessions in collaboration with other sectors and coordinate the development of community programs and activities to promote the healthy and balanced development of individuals
  • Assisting in the development of ways to evaluate the effectiveness of the team's programs and activities based on health promotion principles and indicators established by funders
  • Conduct research on best practices in health promotion activities
  • Compile statistics on activities

Education and Specific Requirements: 

  • Hold a college diploma in health science  or health promotion, OR have equivalent work experience and training
  • Certification in group exercise instruction for seniors (such as CCAA Certification- Senior Fitness Instructor or other)
  • Experience in planning, health promotion and management of activities and projects
  • Knowledge and ability to use basic computer software
  • Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and with a multicultural population
  • Willingness to work flexible hours and travel throughout the Niagara region to meet client needs
  • Dynamic and flexible
  • Sensitivity to the needs of ethnocultural and socio-economic families
  • Excellent command of oral and written French, and good command of oral and written English
  • Have a valid driver's license and have access to a motor vehicle
  • Police check for working with vulnerable persons will be required
  • Proof of vaccination against COVID-19 (or a medical ticket for exemption) will be requested at the time of hiring
