Program & Role Description: The Foundations in IT Bridging program assists internationally trained professionals to transition into the arena of Cloud security and data services. Program participants are provided with training and certification to successfully integrate into the job market. The Employment Specialist is an important part of the project team, responsible for working directly with program participants, trainers, and partner organizations to ensure that participants develop the required skills for success in the IT industry.

  • Location: Base office located in Etobicoke at Islington & Hwy 401. Some travel required across the GTA. Potential to also perform some job functions remotely from home on a hybrid-remote schedule, as determined by management, contingent on the successful candidate having high-speed internet and an appropriate home office space.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Participant Recruitment, Job Search Support and Counselling, and Wraparound Services:

  • Presents the program to community partners and potential program participants, ensuring they understand the program components, objectives, and time requirements.
  • Conducts other recruitment initiatives (e.g., job board postings, social media, etc.) to ensure intake of eligible and suitable participants.
  • Conducts accurate screening assessments of applicants based on program eligibility and suitability requirements, ensuring all mandatory intake forms are completed; schedules interviews, conducts intake sessions, and facilitates information sessions.
  • Contacts participant candidates to extend formal offers to participate in the program and communicates regrets to those not selected for the program and offers referrals elsewhere.
  • Assesses clients’ employment goals and assists them in developing a structured service delivery plan.
  • Coordinates wraparound services to address identified needs and provides additional information and referral services regarding other community programs as necessary, including liaising with community partners regarding referrals and client progress.
  • Addresses barriers to employment faced by internationally trained professionals and provides necessary supports and resources, including referrals to appropriate community services.
  • Provides orientations on appropriate workplace behaviours, life skills coaching, and other topics.
  • Supports participants in planning and conducting job searching based on a realistic and accurate assessment of their qualifications for various job positions.
  • Guides and supports participants to complete job search tasks as outlined on their individual action plans.  
  • Assists participants in the exploration of occupational training requirements, professional accreditation, language support, credential assessment and PLAR.
  • Facilitates and conducts onsite and offsite job search workshops.
  • Participates in the design, implementation, and evaluation of job search materials to meet the needs of internationally trained professionals.
  • Monitors individual participant action plans and group processes to maximize participant learning, self-confidence, and employability skills.
  • Sources and makes available resources in print and online form and through short workshops on topics such as workplace health and safety and human rights, for audiences such as newcomers, youth, people with disabilities, laid-off workers, and others.
  • Assists employers to attract and recruit talent by facilitating employment-related events and other employer prospecting activities.
  • Conducts exit interviews with participants to ensure the service provided was in accordance with service plans and met expected standards of The Career Foundation.
  • Prepares and submits weekly and monthly activity reports to the Program Coordinator.
  • Collects and maintains data on service needs, service delivery, and service satisfaction.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Community Outreach and Administration:

  • Plans, executes, and monitors effective outreach strategies as approved by the Project Coordinator, targeting potential program participants who are eligible for the program.
  • Participates in community events, job fairs and related activities as part of outreach plans.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with libraries, community centers, and other community partners to facilitate client referrals.  
  • Manages participants’ information in online systems, including funder-mandated portal.
  • Maintains documentation of participant files, including records of service provided.
  • Creates case files in online systems for all participants, including entering data pertaining to education, work history, NAICS and NOCs.
  • Monitors mentor/coach relationships and their impact on workplace and individual success and facilitates adjustment as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
 

Qualifications / Skills Required:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Social Sciences, IT/Tech, or related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of proven, hands-on transferrable work experience in employment assessment, case management, job coaching, or within a similar employment-services capacity is required. Candidates who also possess direct experience in group facilitation and community outreach, along with experience or direct knowledge of the IT/Tech industry, will be given preference.
  • Experience working with and supporting internationally trained professionals, job seekers with disabilities, and newcomers considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of the current labor market trends, especially in the IT/Tech industry, the impact of COVID-19 on the labour market, job search techniques and employment research methods is preferred.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) considered an asset.
  • Proven track record in a results-driven environment and solid experience in meeting or exceeding targets is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communicational skills with the ability to clearly community information and develop formal business documents.  
  • Exceptional customer service skills and ability to uphold the organization’s service standards, policies, and core values.
  • A professional and courteous approach to client service with a high level of respect for the diversity of the people served.
  • Flexible and positive approach to work and willingness to take initiative to lend assistance where needed to ensure that the team is successful in meeting project goals.
  • Proven ability to work independently and build strong working team relationships.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel), as well as Zoom, and Outlook 365 applications, including Teams, SharePoint, Forms, and Bookings.
  • Punctual, self-motivated, and self-directed.
  • Ability to maintain sensitive information, exhibit tact, diplomacy, and good judgment, with exacting standards of professionalism, ethics, and confidentiality.
  • Must be flexible to work outside of normal business hours when needed, including evenings and weekends, during peak periods.
  • Must be equipped to work from assigned base location in Etobicoke, travel to other sites of The Career Foundation when needed and perform some job functions remotely from home with reliable internet connection and a professional work-at-home space.
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is essential for local travel.
  • Must be fully vaccinated (two doses) against COVID-19. The successful candidate will be required to submit official documentation to confirm vaccination status prior to job offer.
