Start Date: January 31, 2022

End Date: March 31, 2023 with possibility of extension

Hours: 35 hours per week

Salary: $42,920 to $58,658 annually

The Alberta Recreation and Parks Association (ARPA) is a provincial not-for-profit organization dedicated to fostering healthy citizens, communities and environments and advancing the growth and development of the recreation and parks sector in Alberta. We provide information, programs, services and professional development to communities and our members.


As a key member of the ARPA team, and reporting to the Communications and Marketing Manager, the Communications and Marketing Coordinator is responsible for the development and implementation of targeted communications and marketing activities to help support the growth and strategic objectives of ARPA’s diverse programs, events and initiatives.



Reporting to the Communications & Marketing Manager, the Coordinator will:

  • Maximizing the use of a variety of mediums and technologies to strengthen stakeholder relationships and the ARPA brand (including CRM, websites, social media, online surveys, video, newsletters, etc.).
  • Provide support to Association events. Duties would include script preparation, speaking notes, publication and web design and development oversight and communications support for presentations.
  • Work with staff and contractors to create and produce print, digital, infographics, videos and other communications materials for the Association.
  • Maintain communication tools such as Association website, databases and other software
  • Administer the design, printing and production of communication materials to ensure corporate consistency.
  • Research, write, produce and disseminate a wide variety of communications and publicity including newsletters, news releases, brochures, speeches, videos, displays and annual reports.
  • Managing all social media platforms, including developing and executing growth strategies, content creation and development, and organizing and executing social media campaigns while ensuring alignment with overall marketing campaigns
  • Assist the leadership team in developing relationships with media by creating an awareness and understanding of quality of life and the benefits of recreation and parks as well promoting the various achievements of ARPA programs and initiatives.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of communication campaigns and activities in meeting the Association objectives.
  • Implement the collection and analysis of communications analytics, and provide recommendations for increasing the reach of communications
  • Implement impactful communications and marketing strategies, which include the use of a wide variety of communications mediums and technologies
  • Steward program branding guidelines and templates and facilitate their use by staff, partners and community healthy living champions, as appropriate 
  • Represent and promote ARPA at tradeshows, conferences & events as needed
  • Support other organizational activities as required, such as ARPA’s annual conference





Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in marketing or communications or equivalent experience
  • At least 2 years of demonstrated experience related to the duties of the position is required
  • Experience managing organizational social media accounts is required
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills are required
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and independently, with little supervision
  • Strong project and time management skills, and the ability to work on multiple concurrent projects 
  • Strong computer skills including word processing, internet research, Gmail, videoconferencing technology such as Zoom
  • Current knowledge of social media management using popular social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter
  • Ability to accommodate occasional work outside of typical business hours and travel within Alberta 
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Must have good attention to detail, accuracy and proofreading skills.
  • Ability to manage numerous projects at once and drive each towards realization.
  • Interest and enthusiasm for work in the non-profit sector and passion for recreation and parks and improving the quality of life for everyone
  • Ability to prepare and maintain reports, presentations, correspondence and other related materials.
  • Knowledge of WordPress and other website software would be preferred
  • Experience with communications work using a diversity-based lens. Previous work experience with Indigenous communities or contexts will be considered an asset
  • Understanding of population health and community development is preferred 
  • Working knowledge of Alberta public health and recreation organizations and municipalities is an asset
  • Graphic design skills and experience with design software are an asset
  • Experience with video production and editing is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and independently, with little supervision
  • Double vaccination for COVID will be required as this position will be active at events that will require this vaccination for hosting
  • Ability to accommodate occasional work outside of typical business hours and travel within Alberta
