We are seeking a highly motivated, team-orientated, meticulous individual to join our Human Resources Department as a Payroll and Benefits Specialist.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Human Resources, the primary objective of the role is to manage and produce full-cycle payroll, benefit administration, MPP administration and assist with day-to-day operations of the Human Resources Department at Métis Nation BC.



  • Responsible for accurate and timely payroll processing for 100+ employees on a bi-weekly cycle.
  • Ensure payroll reporting and remittances in compliance with CRA, BC Pension Corporation, and WorkSafe BC, and in accordance with Employment Standards Act and MNBC policies.
  • Manage all aspects of employee benefit administration and pension plan enrollments.
  • Responsible for investigating and resolving payroll or benefit issues in a timely manner.
  • In consultation with the Finance Department, ensure payroll and benefit premium reconciliations are complete and accurate.
  • Manage and update a variety of payroll reports, preparing ad-hoc reports and complete salary and compensation survey/reports as needed.
  • Assist with other Human Resource department functions such as recruitment activities, leave management and new employee onboarding.


  • Canadian PCP or PCM designation, and
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in Payroll & Benefit
  • Combination of relevant experience, education, and training will be considered
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant legislation such as Employment Standards, and Canada Revenue Agency and WorkSafe BC requirements
  • Knowledge of Rise Payroll and/or UKG, an asset.
  • Knowledge and/or awareness of Métis people in B.C.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to lead, problem solve, and utilize team-building skills
  • Proven ability to build relationships and maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Demonstrated ability to perform administrative tasks with a high attention to detail
  • Proven ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work with minimal supervision
  • Proven ability to utilize, adapt and embrace new technologies, including Word, Excel and other database/software required by the role


  • Other duties may be assigned as needed to help ensure the efficient operation of MNBC.
  • There may be a need to work outside of the normal business hours to meet payroll deadlines.
  • Ability to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
