Hope Mission is a Christian charity that seeks to serve, strengthen and uplift men, women, youth and children through the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ. We serve the homeless and hungry in Edmonton with meals, shelter and programs. We also serve children in need across Alberta.
To help support this work, we’re adding a member to our fundraising team. As a charity, Hope Mission relies on the gifts of donors who share our mission. While fundraising experience is an asset, we recognize that there is a range of experience that could equip a suitable candidate for this role. MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Maintain a portfolio of donors. Duties include visiting these donors, talking to them on the phone, taking them on tours, praying for them and updating them on ongoing Hope Mission activities. You will ask many of these people – as individuals, couples, families, foundations, and even through their companies – to financially support the good work of Hope Mission.
Log and report interactions, document follow-up requirements, and track/share any other relevant information in our CRM and with the team.
Engage with donors to discover how their giving connects with their deeply held values and- for many- their faith. Tell amazing stories about how people are making a difference. Listen and ask questions about why people give. Pray with donors where appropriate- thank donors consistently and sincerely. Bring a passion to your work that matches the passion of our donors for the people we serve.
Engage with our corporate supporters to sponsor our special events.
Write grants in support of Hope Mission’s programs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
A post-secondary education. We have had successful fundraisers on our team with theology, history, English, and other degrees. Tell us how your education has shaped your thinking and how you approach challenging tasks.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational and customer service skills for communicating externally and internally within Hope Mission. This is at the top of what we are looking for.
Previous face-to-face fundraising, marketing or sales experience is an asset.
Experience making cold-calls and following up is an asset.
Drive and ability to self-manage individual calendar and booking meetings.
Adaptability while interacting with a range of constituents in a variety of settings is important. The ideal candidate is comfortable in a variety of settings— from large groups to one-on-one--and be able to put others at ease.
Strong computers skills. Regular duties will include logging meetings and querying lists using Hope Mission’s CRM, filling out reports in Excel, compiling a report in Microsoft Word, and communicating effectively by email.
You have an ability to handle challenging situations with care and humility.
Ability to work efficiently towards set goals and annual targets. We aren’t looking for someone who is perfect, we want a person of humility that takes personal responsibility for your results- and is willing to grow, learn and get better.
Availability to work flexible hours—duties will include occasional evening meeting or weekend event. We have busy and quiet seasons, and weeks with regular hours and weeks with odd hours.
