The Epilepsy Association of the Maritimes is a dynamic agency that provides advocacy and support to persons affected by epilepsy as well as education services throughout the Maritimes.

We seek an Executive Director who has experience in the not-for-profit sector who can guide the organization in the coming years. Specifically, someone who can implement improvements to the Associations’ infrastructure and processes with the goal of scaling our operations to better meet our region’s needs.

You are an exceptional leader who can balance long-term, strategic thinking with day-to-day management of the organization.  You work independently and are self-motivated. You have previously demonstrated financial management and budgeting skills in previous roles. You possess strong experience in applying for grants and have exceptional interpersonal and communications skills that enable you to foster strong relationships with a wide and diverse group of stakeholders. That group includes various government representatives, clients and their families, similar agencies throughout Nova Scotia, media, elected officials, donors and sponsors, Board members, and volunteers. You must have some social media and IT savvy.

As the key liaison with the Board of Directors, you are knowledgeable about good governance practices.  You also must be passionate about pursuit of fund-raising ventures. Moderate travel is required. Work schedule can vary based on operational needs. Operationally, you bring well-developed skills in financial management, budgets, and running a small office.

You are known for creating an environment where people work collaboratively in service to the community. Additionally, as we support New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island bilingualism would be considered an asset.

The ideal candidate will possess most of the following:

  • A post-secondary diploma, degree or certificate OR 10+ years in the not-for-profit-sector or a combination of the two.
  • 5+ years of experience in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrated abilities in several of the following areas: fundraising, program development and delivery, client support, community and government relations, financial management, volunteer management.
  • Demonstrated communication skills and abilities.
