The Assistant Manager of the Family Violence Prevention Centre will assist the Manager of the Family Violence Prevention Centre in the development of program policies in line with directions set by Executive Staff Team who are responsible for all phases of program and policy development and implementation. The Assistant Manager monitors operational and evaluative aspects of programs as directed by the Manager of FVPC and fulfill supervision requirements of direct reports. The Assistant Manager will also be delegated to short term responsibilities in an effort to support the Manager of FVPC as well as fulfill acting roles as defined and directed.

The Assistant Manager of Family Violence Prevention Centre supervises 2 programs at 2 different sites (Domestic Violence Complainant Assistance Program and Nalah Centre). The Assistant Manager requires the ability to flex to circumstances, be innovative when problem solving, and utilize exemplary communication and collaboration skills.


  • Provide day to day supervision to a team of 9 staff as per practice and policy and agency philosophy
  • Implement and monitor performance management framework in day to day operations and service delivery
  • Support staff to provide ongoing services using a client centered, strength based approach
  • Assist the program Manager in staff recruitment
  • Ensure that all record keeping database information completed within required timelines
  • Monitor database and complete quarterly quality reviews as assigned by Manager
  • Completion of accurate written documentation
  • Assist Manager with Early Case Resolution (ECR) and docket court coordination in courtroom 268
  • Ensure compliance with mandatory HR practices
  • Adapt services to meet the needs of diverse populations as per unit policy
  • Contribute to overall risk management
  • Obtain and maintain positive working relationships with external agencies
  • Participate in community committees and events as directed
  • Additional responsibilities as directed by Manager

Qualifications / Skills:

  • Degree in social work or related human services field with 5 years’ experience working with victims of family violence and the criminal justice system as well as a minimum of 3 years’ experience supervising teams
  • Thorough understanding of victimization and the dynamics of domestic violence
  • Assessment, interpersonal, written and verbal communication, and engagement skills
  • Experience working with diverse populations and ability to provide culturally relevant services
  • Knowledge of community resources and experience accessing resources
  • Experienced in risk assessment, safety planning and case management
  • General computer knowledge (Microsoft programs, Outlook, video platforms)
  • Experience with client management database systems
  • Criminal Record, Enhanced Reliability and Child Intervention Record Check
  • Valid drivers’ license and reliable vehicle with $2,000,000 liability insurance coverage
  • Ability to work within confidentiality guidelines
  • Fluency in a language other than English is an asset   

Conditions of Employment:

  • Monday-Friday, from 8:00AM to 4:30PM. Working from home may be required
  • The position is based out of EJHS Transition Place. Travel to the Edmonton Courthouse may be required
  • The anticipated start date for the position is January 31, 2022
  • This is a temporary maternity cover position
  • All candidates will be obliged to comply with EJHS’s Mandatory Vaccine Mandate, as a condition of employment
