Job Description: 

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Culinary Manager/Chef is responsible for the development of an 8-weeks training program curriculum, communication and outreach to the community and implementation of a virtual/on-site training course for unemployed youth. Additionally, the Culinary Manager/Chef will oversee food distribution and support to local agencies and families in Weston and nearby communities as well as catering requests. 

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement the Culinary program curriculum, in conjunction with an Industry Advisory Board that will train unemployed youth (18-29) in multiple areas of the Hospitality industry and prepare them for employment. This will include course materials, guest lecturers, site visits.
  • Train youth how to cook and use different culinary techniques through in-class presentations and in the kitchen through hands on knowledge every 8 weeks on a year round basis
  • Develop an outreach and communication plan to maintain effective communications with the Executive Director, residents, staff, participants and Board.
  • Build partnerships in the Hospitality sector and with local businesses in support of the Culinary program; not limited to organizing and attending project related industry and community meetings.
  • Develop partnerships with local schools, employment agencies, and youth centres to encourage participation in the program and to ensure student success.
  • Prepare various correspondences and reports on the Culinary program and other programming (as needed) according to funders’ requirements and provide timely program evaluation.
  • Prepare invoices and provide the Executive Director and Accounting Department with correspondences and Expense reports (daily, monthly and annually as requested).
  • Supervise, orient, motivate and train assigned staff and placement students, ensuring effective teamwork, high standards and organizational performance.
  • Provide input into and administer an assigned budget, ensuring that expenditures are controlled and maintained within approved budget limitations.
  • Ensure Health and Safety regulations are strictly observed, recorded and upheld by staff, participants and volunteers.
  • Regularly update Culinary program and food distribution dates and times on Jumbula
  • Prepare meals, distribute to local agencies and nearby communities, and monitor the quality of all Frontlines’ Catering products, equipment and services provided.
  • Create a plan that will ensure the program is financially sustained after completion of the funding cycle.
  • Conduct outreach 
  • Assist in proposal writing
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in the Hospitality industry
  • Demonstrated experience in Management and training, Program planning, Documentation and Evaluation
  • Demonstrated experience in Project management and results-based reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience working with youth ages 18 – 29 with an emphasis on at-risk youth
  • Vaccine policy exists at Frontlines. Please ask or identify in your cover letter and resume

  • Strong organizational and administrative skills
  • Familiarity with Paypal, Jumbula and other related systems
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally both orally and written at all levels of the organization and the public
  • It is an asset to have experience in a multi-ethnic, high density, urban communities

Education:

  • Post-secondary education or equivalent experience in the Hospitality industry conducting training or apprenticeships and/or developing and managing Culinary training-related projects

Conditions of Employment

The successful candidate must:

  • Successfully complete a Police Reference Check
  • Valid driver’s license and an access to a car
