We are looking for a full-time Indigenous worker to support Indigenous youth in the Vancouver community. The IVSW worker provides one-to-one and group support for youth experiencing violence in the community. They work with youth and families to provide holistic, culturally grounded support and resources. This position requires experience and knowledge of working within the justice system and other systems. This is a unique role of a youth victim services worker that provides direct interventions as well as community-based advocacy and cultural connections.
The preferred candidate will have a solid ability to build relationships with youth, resilience and healing focus, and demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with other community professionals. The ideal candidate has a demonstrated approach to social justice and anti-racist ways of being and an ability to grow and learn in a collaborative environment. In recognition that this position works on the land of the Musqueam, Tsleil-Waututh and Squamish nations, strong community connections are essential.
• Provide one-to-one support for accompaniment with youth to meetings and appointments
• Develop strong relationships with youth and provide brief counselling support
• Engage in collaborative case planning with youth’s support team
• Develop and sustain community connections with relevant community members and service providers, including Elders
• Manage a budget, track spending and mileage, and keep participant stats
• Provide intake and collaborative wellness plans with youth experiencing trauma
• Engage in active outreach and promotion of the program and BYRC
• Participate in resource room shifts and programming
• Maintain youth files, case notes and related documentation
• Provide regular opportunities for youth cultural connection
Academic and Job Experience Required:
Degree in Social Work, Child and Youth Care or related field plus one year experience or Diploma plus two years of direct experience working with Indigenous youth. Multiple years of direct experience will also be considered.
• Criminal record check including the vulnerable sector
• Standard first-aid certificate and CPR
• Class 5 Driver’s License with a clean driving record
• Proof of being fully Vaccinated for Covid 19
• Strong community and cultural connections
• Demonstrated strength in working with two-spirit, queer and trans-Indigenous youth
• Workshop facilitation skills
• Knowledge of restorative justice and healing
• Depression/suicide/mental health assessment training
• Trauma-informed practice
• Experience working in the anti-violence sector
• Manager BYRC
Salary Range: $25.71/hour – $28.43/hour, Plus benefit package (100% employer-paid)
