Position:                      Counsellor

 

Employment Type:      Part-time (.5 FTE) position to March 31/23, with possibility of extension; In-scope position

 

Closing Date:               January 17, 2022

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Counsellor provides counselling, therapy, and related services to individuals, couples, families, and groups who are seeking relief from personal or interpersonal problems.  This includes providing Rapid Access Counselling Clinics at various locations; includes some work in the evenings.  Duties shall be performed in a manner consistent with the overall mission and values of the agency.  The position reports to the Director of Programs.

 Duties include:

  • Provide counselling, therapy and related services according to agency needs including Rapid Access Counselling.
  • Participate in program development, including development and presentation of workshops, group facilitation, and group interventions.
  • Attend relevant agency meetings, be knowledgeable about agency programs and community activities, and market agency programs to the community using various methods (in-person, social media, etc.).
  • Perform related administrative and record keeping duties, including casework recording, session evaluations, correspondence and statistical recording as required.
  • Participate in clinical supervision on a regular basis and consult with the Director of Programs.
  • Be eligible for registration with and maintain good standing in a professional association.
  • Assist with supervision of peers, students and individual cases as required by the agency from time to time.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field of study, such as Social Work, plus two to five years of supervised clinical experience in a related or relevant counselling area. Master’s Degree in a relevant field preferred (i.e., Social Work, Counselling) .
  • Other relevant combinations of education and experience may be considered

Areas of Knowledge:

  • Single session, solutions focused approach
  • Counselling theories and practice
  • Theories of human development, behavior and change – Family Systems Theory
  • Theories and practices of communication and conflict resolution
  • Interviewing, assessment, and evaluation techniques
  • Professional ethics
  • Caseload management
  • Ability to promote services including using various social media platforms
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to deal with challenging people in unusual situations

Final candidates are required to provide the following:  proof of COVID 19 vaccination and a satisfactory criminal record check including a vulnerable sector search.

 

This position is in-scope, CUPE Local 5316.

 

Compensation:

Pay range of $4,005.21 to $4,524.80 per month pro-rated based on Bachelor’s Degree and related experience.
