The Learning Enrichment Foundation (LEF) is a not-for-profit (with a social enterprise mindset) that provides a multidisciplinary and holistic set of supports for members of our community, including those who are: in transition, new to Canada, out of the workforce, and a host of other individual circumstances.


We currently knit together Settlement Services, Child Care, Employment Supports, Skills Training, and Language Training. For over 40 years, it is through supporting and empowering individuals and families (indeed the community as a whole) that we have achieved our goals.

Position Summary:

The Facilities Support person is responsible to work closely with our Maintenance Manager to ensure the ongoing smooth and safe operations of our properties. This role will help to ensure all of our mechanical resources are in good working order, that our physical spaces/buildings are maintained and inspected, that we are compliant with current regulations and that our tenants and employees receive timely support and responses to requests.  This role will also provide backup support to our maintenance and front desk team as required.

Overall Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine building maintenance duties including the inside and outside areas of the facilities, such as painting, minor electrical, plumbing and carpentry repairs, as well as, heating and ventilation systems maintenance.
  • Complete administrative duties, such as filling out forms, keeping accurate records of space conditions, and reporting maintenance statuses to the Manager.
  • Troubleshoot and repair or recommend repairs for equipment for physical spaces.
  • Works with Manager to create maintenance plans and supports the coordination and implementation of work plans.
  • Supports the coordination of work schedules and activities with internal departments.
  • Provides support and direction as needed to third party contractors performing work on our facilities.
  • Ongoing collaboration and support to tenants and employees of LEF in regard to requests/work orders.
  • Resolving minor complaints within the scope of the role and referring larger issues to the Manager.
  • Keep inventory of maintenance and cleaning supplies and equipment, and report needs to Manager.
  • Respond to emergency calls for maintenance and repairs.
  • Provide back-up to the maintenance team for facilities cleaning, painting, and minor repairs.
  • Provide back-up to front desk reception to welcome and screen visitors.
  • Perform duties to set up for special events.
  • Moving equipment and supplies as required.
  • Assisting with the security of the facilities.
  • Maintenance of the grounds of each property.
  • Drives LEF truck and facilitates regular maintenance of the vehicle.
  • Is available on call for emergency maintenance issues for all properties weeknights and weekends.
  • Participate in training and promote health and safety through every aspect of work.
  • Work in compliance with LEF health and safety policies and practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • 2 to 3 years of experience in facility maintenance work
  • Experience performing administrative duties
  • A people person who loves to build relationships
  • This position requires a high school diploma or equivalency
  • Valid Ontario Drivers’ License and is currently insurable
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Suite of products, such as Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams
  • Prior customer service experience dealing with customers in person and online
  • Excellent written and communications skills
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to manage multiple requests/projects
  • An ability to exercise good judgement, tact and maintain confidentiality
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to lift heavy objects
  • Must have both doses of the COVID Vaccine
  • Desire for learning
