Catholic Social Services is currently recruiting for a Contract, Full-Time, 40 hour per week Human Resources Manager located in Edmonton, Alberta. The duration of the contract is up to 12 months.  

You will be joining an established Agency that is guided by faith to care for and bring hope to people in need with humility, compassion and respect. With more than 50 years of service delivery, Catholic Social Services is one of the largest multi-function social services agencies in Canada, with more than 1800 staff, and hundreds of volunteers delivering 130+ programs throughout Central Alberta.

Reporting to the Vice President of Human Resources, the Human Resource Manager will be responsible for implementing HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the overall Agency objectives. This position will bridge management and employee relations by addressing performance and change management opportunities. It will also provide distinctive service to internal clients through collaboration within the HR team and across the organization to support other progressive programs and projects.

As a key member of the Human Resource Team the position responsibilities include;

  •  Partners with the leadership team to understand and execute the   organization’s human resource and talent strategy particularly as it   relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention, and   succession planning
  •  Strong people leadership capabilities to lead a team of HR professionals   including ability to manage employees to achieve results; create a   productive, collaborative work environment and effectively lead through   change
  •  Supervisory duties include overseeing the daily workflow of the   department, recruitment and training of new HR staff; providing   constructive and timely performance evaluations in accordance with   company policies.
  •  Strategic thinker: able to take a long term and systems focus to results   and support a consistent, one-team unified approach demonstrated   through delivery of HR principles, practices, policies and standards
  •  Work closely with leaders and employees to improve working   relationships, build engagement, increase productivity, manage   performance, attract and retain talent
  •  Provide guidance and coaching to management and employees   regarding corporate policies and procedures, employee relations,   recruitment and selection, disability management, compensation and   benefits
  •  Analyze trends/metrics to identify problems & develop relevant HR   solutions, programs/policies for the assigned division
  •  Understand legal requirements at execution level related to   management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring compliance
  •  Ability to successfully implement programs and processes based on   effective change management strategies and tools
  •  Identify practical solutions to complex and diverse HR issues and   recommend appropriate action plans.
  •  Provide support and guidance to HR Service Partners, management, and   other staff when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and   issues arise
  •  Participates and contributes to compensation and benefits analyses
  •  Support and recommend learning and development initiatives for   employees
  •  Oversee employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and   investigations as required
  •  Maintain compliance with employment laws and regulations, and   recommended best practices and reviews policies and practices to   maintain compliance.
  •  Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and   new technologies in human resources, talent management, and   employment law

Education and Qualifications:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources/related discipline or equivalent experience, CPHR designation preferred
  • Minimum of 8 years Human Resources experience, with 3+ years of management experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills in facilitation, coaching and conflict resolution
  • Proven ability to work independently, take initiative and ability to work with key Agency stakeholders
  • Self-motivated, energetic team player, able to work well under pressure
  • In-depth knowledge of a wide spectrum of Human Resource areas of practice
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills
  • Engaging and approachable style
  • Experience of implementing new initiatives and rolling out new ways of working
  • Proficiency with HRIS and Talent Management Systems
  • Ability to collaborate with internal/external stakeholders
