Mental Health Outreach and Engagement Worker
Children and Youth Mental Health Services
One (1) Permanent full-time position (35 hours /week)
Location: Welland with frequent travel
Annual salary: $49,745 to $59,612, excellent benefits

Under the direction of the Specialized Services Director and the supervision of the Violence Against Women Team Coordinator, the Outreach Worker will provide integrated, collaborative, innovative and non-traditional support to clients with mental health needs. S/he will also work with other community partners to build capacity and create opportunities for people to access counselling services in a timely manner. Furthermore, s/he will assist individuals and families in meeting their social needs, support, and encourage clients in building strong community links.


  • Work within an anti-racism, anti-oppression, culturally and linguistically appropriate approach
  • Focus on supporting hard to reach children, youth and their families who have challenges with the determinants of health. This includes at-risk vulnerable people, and those with multi-sector complex needs
  • Use best practices in client outreach and engagement
  • Identify trends and gaps in services, and in community education
  • Promote mental health services available in French
  • Collaborate with existing resources to ensure the quality of services being delivered
  • Provide direct hands-on support according to the preferences and needs of the client
  • Work in collaboration with the existing mental health therapists while addressing the social determinants of health
  • Assist clients in developing their core skills (i.e. personal care, health & wellness, communication, and problem solving) and assist in developing their independent living skills (i.e. finding and managing a home, scheduling and attending appointments)
  •  Provide services in various locations throughout Niagara including shelters, public places as well as, places of common gathering within our community, and other locations where non-traditional supports are required
  • Help clients build the necessary skills to achieve various degrees of independence, as well as promote interdependence to foster self-sufficiency and self-reliance
  • Help clients recognize their strengths and become integral assets in their community through advocacy, outreach, and engagement
  • Represent our CSCHN on the Niagara Family Engagement Initiative
  • Participate at Family Engagement planning table with community partners
  • Implement the family engagement plan within the CSCHN where appropriate
  • Engage families to share their experiences/needs to inform organizational change


  • Excellent knowledge of oral and written French and English
  • Have extensive knowledge of existing community services and networks
  •  Show a demonstrated belief in CSCHN’s mission, vision, and values
  • Possess at least two (2) years’ experience working in human services, as well as an understanding and belief in the abilities of individuals afflicted with mental health and complex health and social issues
  • Have a degree or diploma in Human Services or in a related field
  • Knowledge and experience in mental health, addictions and Indigenous cultural practices are assets as well as bilingualism and lived experience
  • Be committed to engaging with difficult to reach and underserved populations
  • Demonstrate strong aptitude for creativity and out-of-the box thinking and willingness to explore new and unique ways of service delivery
  • Be skilled at working independently and be comfortable working within a multidisciplinary team
  • Be available to work days, evenings and weekends as required, and remain flexible to work after hours
  • A valid First Aid & CPR certificate would be an asset
  • Have a valid driver's license and use of a vehicle with proof of appropriate insurance
  • Provide a clean Police Vulnerable Person Criminal Record Check (PVSC)
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination (or medical ticket for exemption) will be requested at the time of hiring
