Manager, National Programs


Reporting to the Director, National Programs, this contract position serves as the primary relationship-manager for select corporate and government funded grant portfolios. The Manager, National Programs leads the Youth and Education programs actively supporting BGC Canada’s Youth Strategy. This is a one (1) year contract with the opportunity for extension.

BGC Canada’s national team provides support to our member Clubs and leads in issues management, policy advocacy, and other critical work on behalf of Clubs. We advance the agenda for the children, youth, and families served by member Clubs through critical work in the areas of public policy, research, program development, and Club support. The national team is also responsible for building the BGC brand, fundraising, and managing public relations and communications for our cause.


About the Role

The Manager, National Programs is responsible for managing a portfolio of grants to support the development of national programs and activities that meet the specific needs of our member Clubs. This position focuses on but is not limited to building, supporting, and advancing the emerging BGC Canada Youth Strategy.  Areas of activity include grant and program design, Club analysis, curriculum design, grant & report writing, grants management, program evaluation and financial monitoring. In addition, the Manager, National Programs will work with other BGC staff on, business development, department strategy, special consulting projects and incubation ideas for our fiscally sponsored programs & projects. The Manager, National Programs will lead external program and issues related workshops providing feedback and support to local Club staff and BGC Canada’s National Youth Council members.


Specific responsibilities for this role include:

  • Serve as the primary relationship-manager for select corporate and government funded grant portfolios. Liaise across departments and with member Clubs across Canada to ensure all programmatic and grant timelines are met including narrative & financial funder reporting.
  • This position leads the Youth and Education portfolios actively supporting the BGC Canada Youth Strategy.
  • Provide technical guidance, training, oversight, and support to local Clubs to ensure quality program implementation in compliance with funded objectives and desired outcomes.
  • Lead and or participate in proposal, report and curriculum writing processes for select foundation, government, and institutional grant opportunities.
  • Utilize relational database to manage both BGC Canada and Club-facing grant portfolios, maintaining contact information, and tracking action items and reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate with the Fund Development team to advise on appropriate stewardship plans
  • Create and execute special events, trainings, forums and initiatives for Club staff and the National Youth Council.

  • Ability to work on a computer for long periods of time and concentrating which will require attention to detail and high levels of accuracy
  • A ‘can-do’ attitude, willing to take initiative on tasks and assignments
  • Willingness and ability to learn new technical skills and related concepts
  • An enthusiasm for leveraging our technology to help achieve team objectives
  • Excellent at meeting deadlines and keeping on top of workload
  • Experience and comfort in a Microsoft environment, including Office 365, SharePoint, and Teams:
  • Knowledge of essential information technology for a cloud-based computing environment:

  • Satisfactory clearance under the Vulnerable Sector Screening Process

Our ideal candidate:

  • Has a minimum of four (4) years of grant management and program evaluation experience in a not-for-profit context
  • Written and oral French & English fluency
  • Has knowledge of results-based project management, logical framework, and work-plan processes
  • Possesses excellent writing, editing and interpersonal skills. Communicates effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Ability to receive and give supportive feedback to foster equity and inclusion in working relationships.
  • Is an organizer by nature, with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects from creation to completion.
  • Is both a people person and a numbers person, equally at ease in front of a corporate CEO, a Youth member at a local Club or analyzing spreadsheets.
  • Has a strong commitment to social justice, EDI, Truth and Reconciliation, and youth development frameworks
  • Having flexibility to accomplish job responsibilities in several work environments, whether it be from home, on the road, or in an office.

Hybrid Working Environment

The role has a remote work option and can be based anywhere in Canada. Should the incumbent be from the Greater Toronto Area, they will have the option to work in a hybrid model out of the national office in North York, Ontario. When working from home, the incumbent must have their own dedicated workspace where they can work comfortably and focus on their tasks. BGC Canada will provide the necessary technology required to get the job done.
