The Centre for Opportunities, Respect, and Empowerment (CORE) provides community participation and day program supports for adults with developmental disabilities and dual diagnosis. The program provides participants with the opportunity to develop life skills and to engage in social, recreational, and personally empowering experiences. CORE is a respected non-profit organization in the developmental sector, funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, and by CORE’s not-for-profit fee-for-service spaces. 

CORE has an immediate entry level contract opening for a Junior Lifestyle Strategist. This opportunity is great for someone looking to build their skills and experience with the developmental services sector in a frontline position. The individual will be responsible for direct service delivery to CORE participants and will use energy and creativity to assist with activity facilitation and day-to-day operations.

Working Environment

  • Full-time contract position, with potential for permanent employment 
  • Working hours: Monday – Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm
  • Working virtually (e-mail, Zoom, Microsoft Office) while in-person services are closed
  • Working at CORE (office, program areas, community) once in-person services resume

-Supporting with day-to-day operations

-Assisting with virtual activities (online groups) and assisting in-person (groups, individualized activities, community outings) when in-person services resume

-Interacting enthusiastically with participants

-Demonstrating value of all participants

-Communicating with the staff team

-Participating actively in staff meetings

-Working to provide a safe and positive environment

-Hearing and implementing feedback

-Presenting and conducting self in a professional manner

-Writing case notes as required

-Filling in for absent staff or assuming a variety of roles as required

-Participating in staff orientation and training

-Following CORE’s COVID-19 protocols

-Wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)


-Minimum of a college diploma in a relevant field of study (Social Service Work, Social Work, Family and Community Social Services, and Recreation Therapy)

-Minimum of 6 months experience in a supervised related field

-Proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 or written proof of a diagnosed and acceptable medical exemption, with an effective time period for the medical exemption, from a physician or registered nurse in the extended class who is registered and practices in Ontario

-Understanding of the social service field and vulnerable populations

-Ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders in a professional manner

-Strong writing and documentation skills

-Skills in developing and facilitating engaging groups and activities based on individual goals

-Knowledge of various computer software programs, email, internet, local network

-A current Vulnerable Sector Police Reference Screen Check is required

-Valid G driver’s license is an asset

-First Aid/CPR/AED certification, Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification, and Workplace Hazardous Material Information System (WHMIS) training are assets

-Registration in the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) or related field is an asset

-Fluency in languages in addition to English is an asset
