The Kettle Society supports people with mental illness to lead healthier lives by providing support services, advocacy, employment, and mentoring and housing. We work to raise awareness of mental health issues, break down stigma and reduce barriers for people with mental illness. Our goal is to promote the inclusion of people living with mental illness in all aspects of society.

Hours and Days:

9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday

Off: Saturday & Sunday

Salary & Compensation:

$24 - $30+ / hour, depending on experience

Job Summary:

Provides administrative support to the Executive Director. Handles a variety of in-person, written and phone requests and inquiries, coordinates meetings and takes minutes, monitors expenditures, administers a sizable petty cash fund, maintains member and donor databases, and keeps drop-in statistics. Contributes to fund-raising and communication initiatives by compiling information, writing, editing, designing and producing a variety of material. Attends regularly scheduled management meetings and participates on various Kettle committees. May provide work direction to volunteers.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the mandate, programs and policies of the Kettle
  • Knowledge of administrative practices and procedures of the Kettle, including accounting, program management, record maintenance and reporting requirements. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation and graphics software
  • Knowledge of general office practices and procedures
  • Excellent grammar, spelling and proofreading skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to take minutes
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment
  • Ability to apply basic bookkeeping and routine statistical principles, practices and techniques. Ability to make routine arithmetical calculations
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and document actions taken. Ability to keyboard with accuracy
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position


Graduation from high school supplemented with additional courses in office or business administration plus three years of recent, related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline plus five years of recent, related experience including supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Valid Occupational First Aid Level One (OFA1) Certificate, or equivalent.
  • Food Safe Level 1
  • First Aid for Mental Health
  • Naloxone Training
  • Upon conditional hire, must receive an approved Criminal Record Check with the Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General for working with children and vulnerable adults, and must maintain good-standing

As per the Provincial Health Order (PHO), you must have received full dose(s) of an approved COVID-19 vaccine in order to work at our organization. An approved COVID-19 vaccine passport must be presented at the time of hire.
