Disability Services Worker - Ft McMurray

Job Title: Disability Services Worker - Ft McMurray 
Job Type: Permanent, Part-Time 10 - 20 hrs/wk
Location: Fort McMurray, Alberta
Schedule: Monday to Friday (currently 2 hrs/day 1-3pm, but increases to 4 hrs/day, once client & support worker have built a relationship)
Compensation: $21.21+/Hour

The Program
Program 348-36 Ft McMurray Supported Independent Living (SIL) Program
Supports for a young man with developmental disabilities, living in his family home, who wishes to attend activities of interest and develop life skills.

The Position
Duties include planning day program, attending activities of interest, teaching life and daily living skills.
Good understanding of nonverbal communication and experience with Autism is an asset.

In Your Role You Will
• Mentor and teach life skills including communication skills, coping with emotions and change, budgeting, household management, boundaries and self care, relationships, self expression, social skills, coping tools, community awareness, personal safety, etc.
• Encourage/promote inclusion in community activities involving artistic, educational, recreational programming and participation in the volunteer sector.
• Transport individual, in your own vehicle to appointments, vocational or day program activities.• Link the client to community support services.

As An Ideal Candidate You Possess
Education:
• Grade 12 diploma or diploma in Disability Studies or related Social Sciences/Human Services or equivalent.
Training or Experience:
• Minimum two years community rehabilitation experience as well as experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities. Specialized education and training and/or demonstrated success in relevant settings.
Licenses/Certificates:
• Clear Criminal Record Check and Child Welfare check.
• Valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license, Driver’s Abstract and proof of insurability.
• First Aid/CPR, Restrictive Procedures, Abuse Protocols, Non Violent Crisis Prevention Intervention.
Other:
• Must be able to understand non-verbal clues.
• Use of common/business computer applications.
• Committed to philosophies and principles of community based living for individuals in service.
