Title: Senior Manager, Philanthropy

Position Status: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Supervision of: Communications Specialist

The Senior Manager, Philanthropy provides strategic planning and management of fundraising activities, including setting annual and multi-year goals, developing and implementing plans to achieve those goals, and directing/supporting staff and volunteers to activities that contribute to fundraising success.
The Senior Manager, Philanthropy will also lead strategies and activities related to how the organization is presented in, and engaged with, the community, including social media communication, donor recognition, public outreach to potential clients, partners, donors, and more. They maintain appropriate systems to further fund development, including, but not limited to, donor management, research and cultivation, gift processing and recognition, and grant applications. Other job tasks will include general communications duties and event planning as required. Some evening/weekend work or longer workdays may be required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
× Develop and implement a successful annual fundraising plan in consultation with the CEO and Board of Directors to set fundraising targets, with a focus on grant writing, identification of prospective donors, and donor stewardship
× Ensure a steady flow of proposals, reports, and stewardship information for current and prospective funders on a demanding schedule
× Research and write grant applications, reports, and other correspondence for prospective and current donors, government, foundations, and corporate funders
× Identify new prospective donors, assess their gift capacity and potential; contribute to the development of targeted cultivation strategies
× Identify and pursue opportunities for third-party events and liaise with organizers
× Knowledge of community groups and strong ambition to connect with stakeholders
× Manage media relations to effectively describe, inform and promote our brand, mission, values, programs and services
× Draft written materials and prepare presentations to communicate our programs and services
× Lead digital media strategy for the Society, which includes regular posting on social media accounts such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn
× Provide positive leadership to fund development and communications staff and volunteers, encouraging a team approach, professional attitude and respectful, supportive working relationships
× Other related duties as assigned
× Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, or a related field
× 5 to 7 years of experience in major donor cultivation and engagement, and developing annual giving campaigns
× CFRE certification is an asset
× Experience with major gifts, event planning, writing newsletters, press releases, reports and marketing required
× Demonstrated experience related to marketing and media relations
× Experience with Keela, Salesforce, Mailchimp or other CRMs is an asset
× Satisfactory completion of a criminal records check with vulnerable sector screening is required
× Satisfactory completion of Tuberculosis Screening form is required
× Satisfactory completion of Employee Immunization Record form is required
× First aid certification with CPR is required
× Valid driver’s license is required
Skills and Knowledge:
× Extremely detail oriented, capable of simultaneously managing multiple projects and client expectations
× Excellent knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, social media platforms, website management systems
× Possess outstanding customer service skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with a broad group of internal and external stakeholders, and listen closely for insight about what clients really need, in order to advance audience engagement
× High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation
× Strong problem solving, analytical, and creative skills with the ability to exercise sound judgement and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis
× Demonstrated commitment to the social sector with a passion for the organization’s mission is essential
