Communications Coordinator, Bilingual Preferred

We are seeking an innovative, creative, Communications Coordinator who is passionate about working in the charitable sector!

Position Overview:

The Communications Coordinator works with staff and volunteers to implement a wide variety of internal and external communication strategies to increase the profile of Hospice Care Ottawa to English and French stakeholders. As an integral member of the Fund Development and Communications team, the Communications Coordinator also helps with digital and email fundraising initiatives, donor stewardship and event marketing and promotion 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement annual external and internal communications strategies to raise awareness, promote our vital programs and services, advocate for current Hospice priorities, and raise our profile via multiple channels
  • Generate compelling social media content (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn & Twitter), increase and monitor engagement, while appealing to wide stakeholder audiences
  • Create and implement bi-weekly eblasts to keep internal and external stakeholders abreast on hospice happenings, raising funds and awareness, and reporting on impact
  • Maintain the Hospice Care Ottawa Weebly websites (English & French), and special event fundraising websites
  • Monitor, triage and/or respond to email inquiries received on the general Hospice inbox.
  • Oversee the production and mailing of the bi-annual Hospice Matters newsletter for 7,000 stakeholders, the annual Report to the Community and Annual General Meeting mailouts
  • Create and distribute the Staff & Volunteer Monthly Bulletin 
  • Support the Special Events Coordinator by creating promotion materials, website set up, media, marketing to reach new audiences
  • In collaboration with the Director, create and implement annual Giving Tuesday Campaign 
  • Coordinate with the Volunteer Community Outreach team to seek and monitor outreach speaking opportunities to secure speakers/volunteers, and volunteer writers to provide newsletter content
  • Oversee the implementation of the Hospice Care Ottawa “brand” and ensure brand standards are maintained throughout the organization

 

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess the following requirements:

Education and Experience

  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related discipline
  • 2-3 years’ communications experience in the charitable sector
  • Current social media and graphic design experience
  • Experience working in a team that includes volunteers
  • Experience in donor databases is an asset

Skills and Abilities:

  • Bilingualism in both official languages - oral and written - preferred. Candidates who do not meet this language requirement may still apply and would be considered should there be no qualified applicants who meet this requirement
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to think creatively to develop innovative, flexible and modern approaches to marketing and communication
  • Strong ability to use MS Office programs including Outlook, Publisher, PowerPoint
  • Ability to work collaboratively with an interdepartmental team that includes volunteers
  • Highly organized self-starter; independent and self-directed
  • Ability to maintain high productivity amidst competing priorities and tight timelines
  • Ability to demonstrate compassion, empathy, composure and respect in interactions that center around death and bereavement

 Other:

  • Access to reliable vehicle to travel within Ottawa-area when required
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends for meetings and events when required

Position Schedule:               37.5 hours per week, weekdays; some evenings and weekends to attend meetings and events

Compensation:                      Salaried. Eligible for Group Benefits (Health/Dental, Life Insurance & LTD) and paid personal/sick time after 90 days

Location of Work:                 Hospice Care Ottawa locations: Ottawa, Kanata

Travel:                                    Required. Must be able to travel within Ottawa-area

COVID-19:                              Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination is required; possess the ability to continue to comply with vaccination policy
