Make an Impact
You’ve seen the headlines. Family medicine is in crisis. More than 900,000 British Columbians are without a family doctor. BC Family Doctors is advocating to create a new reality for patients and family physicians because we believe everyone deserves a family doctor. That’s where you come in. We are looking for an innovator, a relationship-builder, an advocate. As our Director of Engagement, you will lead our efforts to build connection and community with family physicians across the province.
Who We Are
BC Family Doctors’ purpose is to build an environment where family medicine and family doctors thrive. We are a membership-driven professional association - the political and economic voice of family doctors in B.C. We are fierce and passionate advocates working to ensure family physicians are seen, heard and valued as the cornerstone of our health care system. We cultivate a culture of openness, respect, integrity, vulnerability, courage, and all kinds of smarts. We’re about restoring humanity to health care because whether you are a doctor running a community practice or a team-member of BC Family Doctors, we’re all human beings first and foremost.
Our Team
We’re a small, dynamic team in a fast-paced non-profit, connected to purpose and doing work that we love. We work remotely but come together regularly in the office to brainstorm, ask tough questions and dream big. We’re not hung up on titles and hierarchy - we work together because it makes us stronger, and let’s face it, teamwork makes everything better. We work closely with our dedicated Board of Directors to improve family practice.
The Director of Engagement will be a new, core member of our growing team. You will have the agency to use your creative juices to design innovative strategies to increase our membership and support our member physicians. As an advocate, networker and partnership builder, you will create new advocacy campaigns and community engagement initiatives to foster relationships and collaborations with partner physician organizations and other stakeholders. Together we will communicate to the world that family medicine and family physicians’ matter.
The Role
As the Director of Engagement, your work will be strategic – high level thinking and analysis - through to the practical – networking with physicians and organizing member and community engagement activities. You will have strategic and managerial responsibility for our community engagement portfolio, developing and leading community engagement by networking and collaborating with partner physician organizations and other stakeholders. The knowledge you gain through your community relationships will help you develop our member engagement programs to increase our membership. As a senior leader, working closely with the Executive Director and Chief Strategy & Operations Officer, you will provide strategic input on the organization’s overall direction.
About You
You're an innovator and relationship builder. You are on top of current trends and best practices in advocacy and community engagement. You're well prepared to create and implement new directions and programs in membership recruitment and retention. You're excited by the prospect of designing and putting into practice tools and tactics to build partnerships with our physician networks and unite physician groups through creative engagement opportunities. You like working in a small, nimble organization where you can make change happen and see immediate results. You're a natural leader and initiator, with loads of experience and know-how in your back pocket. You're also a people person, keen to help physicians build connections and conversation, knowing that those interpersonal interactions are what 'being stronger together' means.
