Stand.earth is seeking a contractor to support our Fashion campaign. The contractor will help design, execute, and recruit a team of 12-15 volunteers for a creative, inspiring, media-generating, nonviolent protest in downtown Vancouver, BC. The primary goal of this campaign is to compel fashion companies to publicly commit to phase out coal and switch to 100% renewable energy in their supply chain by the end of 2030.

Scope of Work:

  • Lead local outreach and recruitment efforts to mobilize, train and prepare a team of at least 12 volunteers for creative protests. The organizer should call upon existing relationships with climate activists, affinity groups, ENGOs, student groups, faith communities, unions etc.
  • Research and monitor events and opportunities for actions
  • Schedule and facilitate regular meetings with volunteers
  • One-on-one phone calls and follow up with activists
  • Attend meetings with the Stand.earth team/manager as needed
  • Scout action locations
  • Plan a training and run-through for each action
  • Play a lead tactical role on day of action
  • Support local sourcing and production of key event materials (e.g., banners, signs, stickers, props and unique items to be determined collaboratively)
  • Collaborate with the campaign team to plan, execute and debrief actions

Projected Contract Hours & Rate:
Negotiable

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Experience with nonviolent direct action
  • Experience and ability to organize and recruit groups of volunteer activists for actions
  • Demonstrated success managing volunteers, identifying organizational needs, and problem solving with minimal supervision
