The Program

Your dedicated one-to-one long-term support for a young lady with complex behaviours and mental illness, could make a real difference!
Client uses a wheelchair for mobility and is at risk for suicidal attempts/ideations.

The Position
**This position requires a female worker**
Using a harm reduction approach, support your client in achieving Individual Service Plan (ISP) goals and life skills development, including money management, building healthy relationships.
Only applicants with previous experience supporting individuals with mental illness, high-risk behaviors or trauma will be contacted, as challenging behaviours can occur daily.
* The $20.09 - $23.09/hr rate is the regular wage of $17.09 - $20.09/r plus the $3/hr complex needs rate*
Bona Fide Occupational Requirement: This is a gender-specific position based upon the behaviour and needs of the persons served.

In Your Role You Will
• Independently mentor client towards achieving Individual Support Plan (ISP) goals
• Drive person in care (in your own vehicle) within the community and supervise/participate with the client in recreational, leisure, vocational (training/employment) activities.
• Model/teach life skills including household chores (meal prep, cleaning, hygiene, etc.)
• Encourage healthy relationship skills with family, friends & community
• Support client during setbacks and celebrating successes with them.
• Model healthy relationships and setting boundaries
• Assess individual behavioural, emotional and social needs and requirements
• Use de-escalation techniques to manage challenging behaviours
• Administer medication, first aid if/when necessary.

As An Ideal Candidate You Possess
• Ability to manage client's verbal and physical aggression
• MUST HAVE previous experience supporting special needs clients with complex behaviours, addictions, trauma; 2+ years.
• High School Diploma; with preference for post-secondary course work in Psychology, Counselling, Social Service Worker, Special Education, etc.
• Valid class 5 driver license (or GDL and 3 years driving experience) with clear driving abstract and reliable vehicle
• Harm Reduction, Addictions, Trauma Informed Practice, Complex Needs, Behaviour Management training highly beneficial
• Confident & able to function in a crisis
