Based in Ottawa, the Canadian Parks and Recreation Association (CPRA) is the national voice for parks and recreation, championing a Canada where parks and recreation are essential to individual, family and community health and well-being. CPRA is a registered charity that operates as a federated model, uniting the members of the 13 provincial and territorial parks and recreation associations and their extensive networks of service providers. Through advocacy, research, and policy initiatives, CPRA demonstrates the public good of parks and recreation as well as promoting inclusion and equity, sustainability, and lifelong participation. As CPRA looks to deliver on its Strategic Outlook, they are seeking a seasoned leader that will drive the ongoing commitment to build healthy communities and enhance the quality of life and environments for all Canadians.
Reporting to the Board of Directors and working closely with the senior leadership team, the CEO will advance CPRA’s mission, vision, and effectiveness by overseeing core business operations of the organization. As a key spokesperson for parks and recreation in Canada, the CEO will present a unified voice for the sector, identifying new opportunities for collaboration and partnerships at the federal level. Leading a team of seven, the CEO will identify operational efficiencies and drive the Association towards excellence through effective organizational leadership, financial management, partnership development, and advocacy.
As the ideal candidate, you bring a relevant degree (recreation, business, finance, political studies etc.) as well as a demonstrated track record of success in senior leadership roles with strategic planning functions and working with Boards/Committees. You understand how to run an organization and can operate with limited resources in an efficient and effective manner. As a clear, articulate spokesperson, you are known for your ability to translate complex, divergent perspectives into common goals and objectives. You have a well-established network of stakeholders across government, politics, media, and the general public. As a mentor and coach, you are a collaborative leader that creates an inclusive, equitable culture. As a values-based leader, you are a passionate about the Association’s mission and committed to a healthier Canada. Bilingualism is considered a strong asset. This is a remote position and candidates will be expected to commit four days a week to the organization.
