Join Youth Climate Lab (YCL) as a Finance & Operations Coordinator! Work hand-in-hand with YCL’s diverse staff, partners, and youth across the globe to shake up the status quo of climate inaction. (Don’t let that imposter syndrome stop you!)

About the Role 

  • Location: Remote, Canada
  • Term: 8 weeks, 30 hours/week
  • Compensation: $18/hour

About YCL

YCL is a youth-for-youth lab founded in May 2017 to support and strengthen a generation of leaders in shaking up the status quo of climate inaction. It has since worked with 30+ partners to design, pilot, and scale innovative experiments projects that have reached thousands of young people combating climate change in more than 77 countries.


Design, pilot, and scale innovative experiments that tackle problems faced by young people around the globe in their fight against climate change. 


Young people – no matter who they are or where they are from – are supported in building the just, climate-resilient futures they deserve.

What You Would Do

Role Summary

The Finance & Operations Coordinator works with our Finance & Operations Manager to support the organization as a whole in its daily administrative and operational tasks. In this role, you will work with YCL staff  to ensure that the organization runs smoothly by supporting people and culture management and finance responsibilities. The Finance & Operations Coordinator will also be involved in the financial audit of our 2022 year-end financial statements. The ideal candidate is passionate about furthering youth-led climate action and is excited to manage operational processes to help scale YCL’s impact.


  • Leads Quickbooks entries;
  • Handles team members' expense claims, invoicing and payment requests;
  • Maintenance and support of team members’ timesheets and support with payroll activities;
  • Assists project-specific budget needs in coordination with Program Managers; 
  • Assists with the development of our Annual Operating Plan; and
  • Assists Manager through the annual voluntary audit with the preparation of working papers and review of our annual audit.

People & Culture 

  • Identify and implement ways to improve recruitment processes and support the coordination of active recruitment activities;
  • Provides overall support to team members with personal ecology, professional development, etc.
  • Manages internal people and culture requests
  • Works with Board of Directors to set process for the hiring of directors and supports succession planning

Other Administrative Needs

  • Supports data collection and clean-up for reporting
  • Assists with wage subsidies reporting needs
  • Maintenance and clean up of online documentation and processes
  • Assists with ad-hoc tasks as highlighted by the manager. 


Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities 

We are looking for self-driven, energized, impact-focused individuals who:

  • Demonstrate a high level of self-motivation and organization
  • Is able to take initiative, be flexible, and work well under uncertainty
  • Has experience performing bookkeeping/accounting tasks
  • Is comfortable using Quickbooks Online 
  • Is a quick learner with great problem-solving skills
  • Interest to learn how a non-profit organization operates
  • Excellent ability to write and speak English, ability to write and speak French is considered an asset
  • Has had past experience in human resources management
  • Demonstrated interest in social/environmental issues
  • Have experience working in non-profit, organizing, or community spaces (not required, but an asset)


  • Between 15-30 years old at beginning of contract
  • Access to a personal computer and cell phone
  • Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*
  • Be legally entitled to work according to provincial/territorial legislation and regulations
  • Be eligible to travel internationally


*International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.
