Want to do work that makes a difference?

You know you want to work at a place you’re proud to tell others about. Join our team as we work to change lives and build a more inclusive economy in Calgary!

Since the onset of Covid 19, the LED department has worked hard to re-imagine what today’s aspiring entrepreneurs need to help them build the businesses that Calgary is calling for – businesses that are sustainable, profitable and community-minded. We’ve worked with a world-class consultancy (Lean4Flourishing) and EIT Climate KIC, supported by the European Union, to re-think and modernize our approach to entrepreneurial supports. Our future is to position Momentum as Calgary’s favourite place to come for business training.

We’re looking for a program facilitator who is creative, resourceful, hard-working and adventurous. You’ll join a team of like-minded people who believe that business can be an agent for social change as well as individual transformation. You will co-facilitate Momentum’s Self-Employment program, a six-month full-time business training program.

Momentum Staff are non-judgmental and receptive, approachable, and reflect genuine respect for and commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, Truth and Reconciliation. We’re serious about our work but we don’t take ourselves too seriously and love to celebrate and have fun along the way.

The Organization:

Momentum is an award winning and nationally recognized community economic development organization utilizing innovative approaches to poverty reduction. We use financial literacy, skills training, and small business development as tools to empower people as they exit poverty. We also work to address the root causes of poverty and build strong and inclusive local economies.

Momentum became certified as a Great Place to Work in Canada in June 2021. Great Place to Work is a global authority on high-trust, high-performance workplace cultures. We provide competitive compensation and benefits with an unparalleled work environment. While we are currently working remotely, we plan to return to a hybrid environment. An environment that is professional and diverse, so you’ll find a range of people and backgrounds working here: from MBAs, artists, facilitators, social workers, and everything in between. We have high standards within a supportive setting that allows us to achieve a lot and have meaningful impact in the community. We’re good corporate citizens with sustainability being one of our values and we take care to reduce our environmental footprint.

If this sounds like a place where you would want to work, please review the position below to see if there’s a fit with your skills and experience.

Momentum is an equal opportunity employer. Diverse and unique candidates are encouraged to apply.

What you’ll be doing:

The work of the LED Department is focused on developing a thriving local economy where individuals, businesses, and community flourish within a robust ecosystem. We achieve this goal by delivering formal programming, microloans, working at a systems level, and developing networks, all designed to achieve community impact. We use business and economic development tools to achieve social change. We meet participants where they’re at and support them to explore and build businesses all along the spectrum from a solopreneur to a social enterprise.

Our programs are emergent and dynamic. This position is responsible for actively participating in our ongoing program design work and to co-facilitate the Self-Employment business training program. It includes all aspects of the program cycle: marketing, intake, design, delivery, reporting, and evaluation.

You love sharing your knowledge, experience and ideas with others using engaging and inspiring techniques. You have designed programs which harness the best practices in entrepreneurial development being used today. You thrive in a collaborative team environment, where everyone is pulling in the same direction to achieve a common goal.

What you will need to do the job well:
