The Edmonton Humane Society has been an animal welfare leader in the Edmonton community since 1907. We are a safe haven for thousands of animals in our care each year. EHS plays a key role in the Edmonton region by enriching the lives of people and their companion animals not only through our sheltering, but through our programs, services and community engagement.
The Role
Reporting to the Supervisor, Humane Education, the Camp Counsellor is member of the Humane Education team who engage youth through presentations and activities, building lifelong compassion and empathy for companion animals during summer day camp programming. Camp counsellor should strive to create a safe, inclusive, and fun environment for all individuals involved in the camps.
EHS connects people and companion animals through advocacy, education and community engagement and the work of Humane Education directly supports this mission.

Skills & Abilities
As the ideal candidate, you will have a passion for children and animals. You have excellent communication skills and enjoy working independently with little supervision. You have ability to use positive techniques to ensure positive behaviours.
In addition, you possess the ability to lead, organize and supervise timed programs effectively while responsible for multiple tasks, have demonstrated ability leading and organizing recreation and/or children’s activities, and to create a respectful, inclusive, welcoming environment. You have a keen attention to detail with the ability to identify and minimize risks, and adjust programming accordingly.
Compensation/Hours
Compensation: EHS offers a competitive not-for-profit compensation.
Hours: 40 hours a week – either 8:00 am to 4:00 pm or 9:00 am to 5:00 pm (to be determined based on camp registration and team schedules).
