Yoga Study and Service Immersion (YSSI) Program Coordinator at the Salt Spring Centre of Yoga
Who We Are:
We are a non-profit educational and spiritual retreat centre dedicated to teaching the core principles of yoga which embody peace, resilience, and belonging. Founded in 1981 by venerated master yogi Baba Hari Dass from India — the Centre is the west coast of Canada’s longest running spiritual and wellness retreat centre. Many people experience transformation while being a part of the pristine Centre land nestled in the heart of Salt Spring Island. There are elders around the land who have wisdom to share and overall, we strive to have a peaceful work environment where you are supported to bring your best and whole self. The YSSI Coordinator will be working alongside people who are committed to exploring community, spiritual practice, and selfless service.
Who We’re Looking For:
The ideal YSSI Coordinator is a friendly, compassionate and organized yogi who has demonstrated experience with program development, mentorship, and facilitation. We’re looking for someone who has their own, holistic yoga practice and who is excited to teach, mentor, and guide the students. This Coordinator is ultimately responsible to lead and coordinate YSSI program participants and volunteer teachers, liaise with functional area coordinators regarding work service scheduling, and work closely with the leadership team. With support from the Program Manager, the YSSI Coordinator is responsible for the overall planning and management of the Salt Spring Centre of Yoga’s Yoga Study and Service Immersion Program. The YSSI Program has been running at the Centre since 2014 and has graduated many yogis who have had transformational experiences. The YSSI Program is a 10-week program that serves 3 different cohorts of 12-15 participants. The plan for 2022 is to have 2, 12 person cohorts.
The program allows participants to receive foundational teachings in 8-limbed yoga, engage in various spiritual practices and build community within their cohort, advance their personal development, and serve in meaningful karma-yoga roles across various functional areas of the Centre.

The YSSI Program is a 24/7, 10-week program, with all program participants living onsite. The Coordinator role being onsite not only offers affordable housing on Salt Spring Island for the duration of your time in the role, but also allows you to engage more meaningfully in the program. If you are excited about the idea of joining our multigenerational residential community, please indicate this in your application. We have limited spaces available for those looking to live onsite in the yoga community. Those who join our residential community are asked to: commit to engaging with others in a positive way, keep a clean and sober environment (no alcohol or drugs on the property), and abide by the lacto vegetarian guidelines while on property. More details about our residential agreements can be provided during the interview at your request.
