Futurpreneur Canada has been fuelling the entrepreneurial passions of enterprising young Canadians since 1996. We’re the only national, non-profit organization that provides financing, mentorship and resources to aspiring business owners aged 18-39. More than 15,000 young Canadian entrepreneurs, spanning every province and territory, have successfully launched their business with Futurpreneur’s support. Here’s the opportunity: Program Specialist, Indigenous Entrepreneur Startup Program  

The Program Specialist, Indigenous Entrepreneur Startup Program plans, coordinates, implements and assesses the delivery of Indigenous-focused Futurpreneur Canada programming, and proactively contributes to its continuous improvements. Reporting to the Director, Entrepreneurship Programs, this role requires frequent cross-departmental coordination, specifically working closely with the Indigenous Entrepreneur Startup Program, Corporate Partnerships and Marketing / Communications, as well as liaising with other internal and external contributors to achieve programmatic goals. 

 
This is a permanent, full-time position that can be located anywhere in Canada. The incumbent will be working remotely (due to COVID) in the first instance and will then be located at one of our offices, working within our hybrid work model (from June 2022 onwards). This role may require frequent travel.   

What you will do: 

Support the creation and implementation of new Futurpreneur Canada Programs/initiatives, with a focus on Indigenous programming (60%) 

• In collaboration with Indigenous organizations, partners, and communities, co-design and co-deliver Futurpreneur’s new Indigenous Entrepreneur training program 
• Facilitate learning circles and/or digital workshops with organizations, partners and individuals to better understand the support needed by Indigenous entrepreneurs to start and succeed  
• Collaborate with and support Futurpreneur’s Programs teams to schedule events, coordinate production, manage timelines, monitor quality, track attendance when needed 

• Engage with key stakeholders to identify and create tools and templates to facilitate operationalization of new programs and projects 
• Document findings of pilot/test and make recommendations on implementation plans 
• Work with the Director, Entrepreneurship Programs and the Director of the Indigenous Entrepreneurship Startup Program, to create and oversee the pilot plan of new programs and initiatives including the identification of measurement and evaluation metrics 
• Assist in process mapping and the development of training materials to facilitate implementation and hand off to operations for new programs and improvements 

Support the coordination and implementation of current Futurpreneur Canada programs/initiatives, with a focus on Indigenous programming (20%) 

• Coordinate, implement and report on the delivery of Futurpreneur Canada programs/initiatives 
• Collect and review data to report on key performance measurements, including impact measures, and outcomes of ongoing programs 
• Support the collection and interpretation of user experience and client satisfaction metrics 

• Support the identification of gaps and make relevant recommendations to evolve and adapt existing offerings 
• Plan and coordinate the implementation of the improvements 
• Support the team in documenting forward-looking roadmaps of all programs 
• Regularly assists in gathering information about competing programs, trends and best practices 

General Program delivery support (20%) 

• Attend to program-related events 
• Support communication team for program-related internal and external communications 
• Contribute to the identification, selection and management of external vendors, consultants and advisors to outsource tasks and optimize use of resources 

• Participate in team planning and brainstorming discussions 
• Manage budgets and expenses as required 
• Support team in gathering quantitative and qualitative data to validate new ideas 
• Support programming, webinars, bootcamps, in person workshops to entrepreneurs, educating on business financial resiliency, essentials of a business plan and cashflow; key elements of a business launching process (idea stage to business plan completion)   

What you will have:     

• Relevant experience may include education with a focus in Business Administration, Arts, or related field or equivalent hands-on career experience 
• 2-4 years’ experience in project management and coordination 
• Strong project coordination skills required 

• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and be on time and on budget 
• Knowledge of small business sector in Canada; experience working with entrepreneurs and volunteers preferred 
• Demonstrated problem solving skills 
• Ability to work effectively with different and multiple stakeholders  
• Ability to approach Indigenous communities with empathy and understanding 

• Strong network and sense of purpose, entrepreneurial mentality and/or lived experience working with Indigenous Entrepreneurs and community organizations 
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by young Indigenous entrepreneurs and Indigenous-led and Indigenous-focused community organizations 
• Public sector experience is an asset 
• Experience with CRM and project management tools required  
• Excellent English verbal and written communication skills 

• Bilingualism in French & English (spoken & written) – an asset 
• Mastery of Microsoft Office 
• Knowledge of Indigenous small business sector and ecosystem in Canada will be considered an asset
