St. Matthews Day Care is a non-profit, charitable organization providing child care for children aged 4 months through 12 years.
Our summer camp is for children who have completed Kindergarden through Grade 7. We provide a variety of weekly activities and field trips to keep the children engaged.
As a summer camp leader, you will be on a team with four other staff members to deliver the fun and excitement.
Job Description
Will assist in both school age and preschool aged groups
Working with the senior staff member, the Summer Lamp leader will:
Assist in coordinating the details of the summer activities, including developing appropriate art activities and games; planning the transit / walking routes for field trips in a manner that supports and promotes the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children
Ensure the classroom space is safe, clean and attractive
Organizing classroom space in a functional, clean, neat & attractive way
Labeling materials
Displaying children’s work in a way that is attractive and promotes children’s self-esteem
Alerting director to any concerns about cleanliness, needed repairs or safety
Prepare field trip bagged lunches in accordance with the Centre’s policy and food safety rules
Serve snack, prepared by onsite chef, for non field trip days
Ensure records (i.e. communication log book, attendance, sign in sheets) are maintained
Enforce safety rules, intervene when children may injure themselves or others, and promptly complete an incident report in the event of an injury involving children or staff.
Practice infection control principles (i.e. proper hand-washing, cleaning and sanitizing toys, tables, etc)
Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and parents
Guide children’s behaviour using a range of developmentally appropriate, consistent and positive approaches
Hours of Work / Compensation
Full time summer position.
Shifts are 7 – 8 paid hours with a 1 hour unpaid lunch break. Shifts will vary during the operating hours of 7:00 am and 6:00 pm.
Start date – June 6, 2022
End date – September 2, 2022
Hourly rate - $18.00
Qualifications
Must be 19 years of age
Ability to read, write and speak English at a high level
Valid Emergency Child Care First Aid or Standard First Aid. Must be obtained before June 29, 2022
Have completed or be willing to complete, a course, or a combination of courses of at least 20 hours duration in child development, guidance, health and safety or nutrition [Responsible Adult Training], (Time will be allotted during the training period to complete if not done prior to starting)
Experience working with children (may be volunteer work)
Comfortable in water and be able to swim
The following qualifications are considered an asset: Food Safe Level 1, High-Five, Babysitter training, Early Childhood Educator / Early Childhood Educator Assistant Certificate, Education Assistant
Successful candidates will be require to complete a criminal record check prior to starting in the position
