The Candora Society of Edmonton has an employment opportunity for a Summer Student - Community Program Assistant. This is a temporary full- time position (35 hours per week) for 16 weeks. The Summer Student – Community Program Assistant works to support programming for the Candora’s children’s program and the community.  In addition, the student will have the responsibility of our community garden, community field trips and communicating with our partners.  The student will work closely with the Children’s Project Coordinator. 


This opportunity is being funded through the Government of Canada’s Summer Jobs program.

Key Responsibilities


Summer Student – Community Program Assistant will participate as a member of the Children’s program team and will attend weekly meetings.  


Duties include but are not limited to the following.

  • Plan, coordinate, and implement field trip events for the Children’s program, the community and any special events
  • Facilitation of planning meetings
  • Advertising of Candora events and activities, including creating posters
  • Coordinate and plan lunches for the community field trips
  • Coordinate donations for special events and activities
  • Work closely with community agencies, residents, and volunteers
  • Plan, coordinate and implement community garden program
  • Provide opportunities for multicultural respect and tolerance
  • Work cooperatively with other staff in a team approach
  • Maintain awareness of community issues
  • Directly report to the project coordinator on a regular basis
  • Developing a final report 

Qualifications, Skills & Competencies

  • Prior experience in working with children and/or the community
  • Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal and team skills
  • Self-directed, and an ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Commitment to the vision, mission, values, and beliefs of the Candora Society.
  • Strong orientation to community oriented, relationship-based work including an awareness of and sensitivity to issues of participants/community members
  • Clear understanding of professional boundaries and ethics
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Police Security Check and Child Welfare Check required
  • Must be between 15 – 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • Valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations


Employment type: Temporary FTE position will end after 16-week term

Hours of work: Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 4:00 pm (35 hours per week)

Expected Start Date: May 24, 2022

Wages: $15.00/hour
