The Candora Society of Edmonton has an employment opportunity for a Summer Student - Children’s Program Student. This is a temporary full-time position (35 hours per week) for 8 weeks.  The Summer Student – Children’s Program works to support programming for the Candora’s children’s program and the community. This is accomplished by ensuring that the summer preschool program runs smoothly and is supported by the student.  You will work closely with the Children’s Project Coordinator. 

 

This opportunity is being funded through the Government of Canada’s Summer Jobs program.

Key Responsibilities

 

The Children’s Program Student will participate as a member of the Children’s program team and working in the summer preschool and will attend weekly meetings.  

 

Duties include but are not limited to the following.

 

  • Assist team with educational and recreational activities for 3 - 6-year-olds
  • Assist in the teaching of culturally appropriate materials
  • Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings on Mondays
  • Participate in some community activities
  • Work cooperatively with other staff in a team approach
  • Report to the Project Coordinator or Program Manager on a regular basis
  • Support preschool program outings as needed
  • Support and implement licensing protocols, procedures, and quality control practices
  • Developing a final report

 

Qualifications, Skills & Competencies

  • Prior experience in working with children and/or the community
  • Strong oral and written communication, interpersonal and team skills
  • Self-directed, and an ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Commitment to the vision, mission, values, and beliefs of the Candora Society.
  • Strong orientation to community oriented, relationship-based work including an awareness of and sensitivity to issues of participants/community members
  • Clear understanding of professional boundaries and ethics
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Police Security Check and Child Welfare Check required
  • Must be between 15 – 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Must be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment
  • Valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations

 

Employment type: Temporary FTE position will end after 8-week term

Hours of work: Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 4:00 pm (35 hours per week)

Expected Start Date: July 4, 2022

Wages: $15.00/hour

REPORTS TO:  Children’s Project Coordinator
