Job Description:

The Programming Assistant will be a creative & administrative role that supports the Programming department of the Massey Theatre and Eighth & Eight. 


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist department in implementing programs, including contracting, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating, registration system setup and use, statistics and reporting
  • Assist department on developing new creative projects
  • Conduct research to support the artistic vision as required
  • Create evaluation materials for new programs, monitor and record
  • Monitor attendance and participation in new programs and provide feedback
  • Assist in grant preparation
  • Liaise with artists, teachers, staff, and community members to answer questions and provide information and technical assistance
  • Conduct tours of facility
  • Attend meetings with staff and community members


Working Conditions:

  • This position typically operates in an office environment, as well as overseeing work taking place in the theatre, studio spaces and other external locations, dependent on the nature of the artistic work be presented or considered.
  • Hours of work: On average, 37.5 hours per week
  • Evening and weekend work maybe required to facilitate programming. An averaging agreement will be put in place.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Minimum two years post-secondary degree in a related field or equivalent experience in the arts, not-for profit of entertainment industry.
  • Comfortable working in collaborative environments
  • Organized, responsible, and reliable
  • Outgoing with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • A passion and commitment to the performing arts and their value to society
  • Knowledgeable and able to work confidently in Microsoft Office suite / Office 365

  • Wage – $21.00 per hour
  • Hours – 37. 5 hours per week on averaging agreement
  • Duration – 16 weeks Canada Summer Jobs with potential for ongoing future employment
