The Family Centre is looking for a detail oriented and proactive individual to join our finance team. Reporting to the Finance Supervisor, this position is responsible for processing semi-monthly payroll including the maintenance of employees’ files and updating employees’ records in payroll software for new hires, terminations and salary changes.
Post-Secondary education in Accounting or related discipline preferred; previous work experience in the accounting field may be considered in lieu of formal education requirements
A minimum of 3 years of payroll or accounting experience
PCP( Payroll compliance practitioner) certificate is considered an asset
Experience in a job costing environment considered an asset
Experience working within a computerized accounting system (using PGI is considered an asset)
Knowledge of current employment standards and regulations
Experience working in a non-profit environment is considered an asset
Ability to work in a team environment and shared space
Strong interpersonal skills
Excellent organizational skills and detail oriented
Strong written and verbal communication
Effective problem solving skills and ability to make decisions using sound judgment
Ability to manage changing tasks and have effective time management
Team player but also able to work independently
Ability to work in a high volume, fast paced environment
Possess working knowledge of Microsoft Office, with a minimum of intermediate skill level in Excel, is required
Responsible for maintaining the integrity of payroll data and protecting the confidentiality of employee data
Processing of semi-monthly payroll according to payroll schedule and deadlines
Processing manual ad-hoc employee payments as required
Processing new hires, leaves and terminations in the payroll system in compliance with agency procedures and legislatives regulations
Maintenance of employee payroll files, including processing all employee payroll adjustments (position changes, salary changes, retroactive salary/hourly adjustments, benefits and RRSP amount change etc.), deductions, and taxable benefits
Creation and submission of ROE’s using ROE Web
Ensure accuracy of all staff payroll being processed
Respond to payroll inquiries from staff and leadership
Reconcile and prepare all source deduction remittances and RRSP remittances semi-monthly
Preparation and submission of annual T4 returns
Perform semi-monthly GL accounts reconciliation of all payroll accounts; prepare Journal entries as needed
Provide assistance with year-end audit work
Additional duties as required
