About the Position:

The Infrastructure and Cloud Administrator uses the skills required of a Systems Administrator in an in-house or hosted environment, as well as working knowledge of the skills required to provide, manage, monitor, and decommission datacenter and cloud services. 

Reports to: Infrastructure Manager

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Planning: 

  • Assists IT staff in creating optimal technology design topologies and configurations
  • Assists other IT staff with end users and department heads to identify and document required technology service levels 
  • Assists in the creation of enterprise technology and cloud documents (policies, standards, baselines, guidelines, and procedures) 
  • Assists in the planning and design of an enterprise Business Continuity Plan and Disaster Recovery Plan
  • Responds to emergency technology outages in accordance with business continuity and disaster recovery plans
  • Assists in ensuring the accuracy of documentation, procedures manuals, and help sheets for technology installations, including data, voice, and video systems

Acquisition & Deployment: 

  • Supports development and implementation of technology solutions
  • Conducts research on virtual and private cloud operations, products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts
  • Helps evaluate and recommends the purchase of hardware and software products
  • Writes technical specifications for purchase of hardware and software products
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of technology contracts and supervises contract-based installations 
  • Maintains up-to-date, detailed knowledge of: cloud operations; networking and storage; archiving, security, identity, and access management; IAM in the cloud; workload monitoring; managing resource consumption; configuration management; and workload automation in the cloud

Operational Management: 

  • Ensures that our system infrastructure, internet, communication and application services are procured, deployed, maintained and operating smoothly to meet the operational needs of the organization 
  • Takes preventive measures and proactively seeks out practical solutions to enable the organization’s efficient and effective operation 
  • Maintains in-house and cloud infrastructure network, server, and platform operating systems
  • Maintains current systems software, protocols, and standards
  • Performs system administration of installed Microsoft products
  • Controls security, identity, and access management of IAM in the cloud
  • Deploys and monitors workload on site and in the cloud
  • Manages resource consumption in the cloud
  • Configures management in the cloud
  • Automates workload in-house and in the cloud 
  • Receives and responds to incoming calls, pages, and e-mail technology problems
  • Performs on-site analysis, diagnosis, and resolution of complex technology problems for a variety of end users; and recommends and implements corrective hardware and software solutions, including off-site repairs
  • Recommends, schedules, and performs technology improvements, upgrades, and repairs.
  • Liaises with, and supports, Front Line Support staff
  • Maintains the secure configuration and operations of all in-place devices
  • Monitors all in-place security solutions for efficient and appropriate operations
  • Reviews logs and reports all in-place devices
  • Interprets the implications of device activity and devises plans for appropriate resolution
  • Participates in investigations into problematic operational and security issues
  • Provides on-call support for end users for all in-place technology solutions
  • Evaluates procured cloud services to ensure they are meeting existing best practices
  • Provides reports to Associate Director of Technology upon request

Qualifications & Experience:

Formal Education & Certification

  • Post-Secondary diploma or university degree in the field of computer science and/or 2 years equivalent work experience
  • Industry related certifications: CompTIA, MCSA, and/or MCSE

Knowledge & Experience 

  • Working technical knowledge of in-house network, server, and platform operating systems
  • Strong system administration experience and skills(Linux/Unix or Windows) at the command-line level
  • Experience with running and maintaining scripting (PowerShell etc)
  • Hands-on software and hardware troubleshooting experience
  • Experience with data, storage, and archive management
  • Experience documenting and maintaining configuration and process information
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws
  • Extensive application support experience with productivity and infrastructure disciplines
  • Working technical knowledge of current hardware, protocols, and standards
  • Working technical knowledge of other available security solutions
  • Experience with cloud security architectures and solutions
