Are you passionate about public spaces, community building and sustainability? OurSquamish Is looking for a community animator, this is a part-time position funded through Canada Summer Jobs. OurSquamish is a community non-profit dedicated to enhancing Squamish’s urban public spaces for a lively, inclusive, sustainable, safe & healthy Squamish. Through people-driven projects, education, and advocacy, OurSquamish is committed to building equitable public spaces that support the diversity of our community.

What does a community animator (you!) do?


The Community Animator works with the OurSquamish team to make connections with individuals and groups in Squamish, and support programs and initiatives that lead to community engagement, placemaking, and higher use of active transportation. They are supported in their outreach and engagement tasks through ongoing guidance and training from the OurSquamish team.


Tasks and responsibilities could include:


Connect regularly with community partners

Manage our Bike Valet program, including coordination of volunteers

Host Placemaking days, engage with the community

Assist in event organization, including our Open Street Days and Placemaking Meetups

Develop and post content to promote programs and activities on social media

Assist in the organizations placemaking projects

Understand and follow best practices for inclusive public engagement

Roles and responsibilities may vary depending on employees unique strengths

There is room to grow within the organization beyond the summer for the right candidate


The ideal candidate is:


Passionate about public spaces, community building, and sustainability

Someone who loves connecting with other people and enjoys striking up a conversation with strangers

An excellent communicator, verbally and written

A creative thinker who is self-motivated and organized

Interested in growing their role in the organization


Hours and Compensation:

$20/hr starting wage | 15-20 hrs/week | 12-16 weeks with possibility to extend contract. Hiring for a start time in June 2021. You must be aged between 15 and 30 and be legally entitled to work in Canada. International students are not eligible due to funding restrictions.
