The Canadian Association for the Performing Arts (CAPACOA) is seeking a bilingual Communications Assistant / Arts Administrator who will assist the Communications Director with all communications needs. The role can be performed from anywhere in Canada.


Hourly wage rate: $15/hr

Hours per week: 35

Length of Contract: 10 weeks, offering flexible hours

Location: Remote / Work from home


Anticipated Start Date: June 20 (an earlier or later date can be arranged)

*This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs Program.



  • Assisting with social media management.
  • Working with the team to develop monthly newsletters and communications.
  • Assisting in general editing and writing of articles and content.
  • Crowdsourcing or outsourcing compelling photos for various platforms.
  • When warranted, assisting the Communications Director to prepare and send a weekly news update, sent to all CAPACOA members.
  • Assisting with the arts community job board
  • Supporting website management
  • Working together to develop projects and communicating with colleagues about ongoing projects
  • Attending weekly team meetings

Other tasks/projects may include:

  • Researching and implementing a solution to integrate WordPress user information with MailChimp mailing list.
  • Retrieving historic funding commitments in federal budget estimates and calculating cost-of-life fluctuations
  • Aiding other CAPACOA projects as needed.

General Requirements

  • Meet Canada Summer Jobs hiring requirements
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written, in both official languages.
  • Strong writing skills and an ability to express fresh, engaging ideas in copy.
  • Experience working with (or willingness to learn) digital communications tools, including email marketing, websites, blogs, social media, standard office software including the Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and image editing software.
  • Enthusiastic team-player who is able to juggle multiple/competing priorities
  • An understanding and passion about all things social media and the role it plays in a professional setting.
  • An interest in the performing arts and/or not-for-profit sector.
